Wretched, loathsome, repulsive Gremins knock-off.

So it's a no-budget Gremlins ripoff where the Gremlins inexplicably have a superpower that makes people think their fantasies of stardom have come true, but only when the lights are on. This is obviously not just the plot of two completely different movies thrown together to barely make 88 minutes, but also a very thinly veiled metaphor for how Sloane managed to get anyone to act (and I use the word very generously) in this crap.

Rick Sloane's Z-grade "Gremlins" knock-off suffers from the terrible combination of being mind numbingly dull and frustratingly bad. Despite a handful of "so-bad-it's-good" moments drizzled with a moldy layer of cheese, this horrible slog needs the MST3K treatment to be even close to watchable. In the hierarchy of little creature features from the 80's, this garbage train easily sets the low water mark during the genre's peak.

If not the worst movie of all time, at least deserves the trophy for the most irritating. There's the most obnoxiously horny teenage girl in history (cinematic or otherwise)--all the hubbub re garden tools--and of course Club Scum. This one even drove Mike & the 'Bots nuts.

If only I could vomit trough my eyes. That said, it might evoke some laughs of pity.

Hobgoblins is a terrible brain damaging crapmovie. Even with MST3K it was hard to watch. I'm glad I had MST3K's support, my brain received a lot of damage but I'm glad the vital functions still work

Horribly blatant Gremlins ripoff. Bearable with the MST3K crew. God only knows how painful it would be to watch without them.

An utterly loathsome film.

There is nothing more painful than sitting through a bad movie and finding out after there was a rifftrax/mst3k for it that would've softened the blow. I am a sucker for people pretending they're being mauled by puppets ... to a limit

Almost manages high-camp “so bad it’s good”, but it's so slowly paced and uninspired that it becomes a chore to wait for the moments of comedy gold: the rake fight (with attending over-stated musical stings) and the long, peculiar digression into a strip club in the final act, with Norris’ hilariously “frou-frou” MC threatening to steal the show entirely. The sight of actors writhing around pretending the puppets are attacking them is amusing, but the HGs are a pretty weak and washy threat.

It's not the worst movie ever, but it does completely lack any redeemable features.

Remarkably well balanced cheesiness here; I would credit the actors and director for keeping everything Mise en scène. Even with that taken into consideration this is downright awful. Scenes' gimmicks play out rather quickly but roll on long past their novelty. It delivers what it promises and it's hard to truly fault it for that, even if it promises very little. [MSTk: One of the many strong points of the Sci-Fi Ch's run. Skits are great, the riffs are great and the movie is just too perfect.]

Yet another irritating micro-budgeted _Gremlins_. Makes _Ghoulies_ look like _Aliens_.

Fun to watch and laugh at especially with the MST3K track, but beyond that...it's abysmal.

Of all the things to rip off? Gremlins? Really?

I knew I was going to like Hobgoblins almost immediately. It was an earnest attempt which is a key ingredient to enjoying a "so bad it's good" movie. If you are a fan of Troll 2, Birdemic, or The Room you will most likely enjoy Hobgoblins as well. I pulled up images on IMDB, and it made me want to watch it again.

Hey, this is probably the worst film Mst3k has skewered.... Just gonna let that sink in for a minute. Ep. score: 8/10
