Let's be honest - this is not a good movie. It is, however, a decent guilty pleasure if you're crazy about Halloween.

I've noticed that criticker users appear to have an aversion to children's movies...or, more likely, they just rate them poorly under false pretenses despite enjoying them when they were young. All of you are cowards. At the very least rewatch it before you rate it. This is a fun and entertaining movie, I swear.

This kinda sucks and oh my god Bette middler and SJP and Peggy Hill are hexing me again. Honey we are all Winifred Sanderson. Use to watch this on ABC when it would air around Halloween (holy shit what are the odds) and would fantasize about that rich person house and their giant cauldron of full size chocolate bars. Oh and yabbos.

Great entertainment, as long as you like the kind of style that the late 80s / early 90s can deliver. The plot is probably more enjoyable as a kid, but the humor has only gotten funnier over the years.

This is so much fun, even if it's not necessarily that good. Bette Midler is clearly having WAY too much fun. And that "I Put A Spell On You" scene is one of my favorites.

An entertaining Halloween movie. It looked like it was lots of fun to make, and it was pretty fun to watch. The script isn't anything spectacular, but I was intrigued and curious to see how everything would get solved. The characters were enjoyable, and the script-while sometimes pretty predictable-also kept me guessing. The special effects are nothing impressive, except that I was pleasantly surprised at the effects of the talking cat. :) A fun film, and a good Halloween flick!

Few movies succeed in annoying me as much as this one does. It's overplayed and highly obnoxious. There's too much huffing about with stupid grunting coming from the witches, and the kids are all a little too simple minded to be good protagonists. Crap!

I don't feel as cynical about this as everyone else. No question that Midler is sometimes a little too much, but she's also probably the best part of the film, so it's hard to knock her here. The witches experiencing the modern era is where the best stuff comes from. There's not much else to note other than that. That early CGI cat? Salem from Sabrina the Teenage Witch looks better.

The only reason I would not give this film a zero is because it was one of the first films to introduce to me the notion of mood. When I was a kid, I thought this was a very spooky film, particularly the witches, and they gave me nightmares.

Featuring a trio of fantastic performances from Midler, Parker & Najimy as the Sanderson Sisters & a pretty fun premise, those are unfortunately the only two things carrying it & without one or both it would have very little to offer. Hampered by a plot that feels Disney Channel-esque at points & a messy structure, as well as bland protagonists & a highly unlikeable main hero, it does make up for that with some solid laughs here & there. Overall, it's nothing amazing, but is worth a look.

Hocus Pocus is cute. The three women on the cover play witches who made a spell that would bring them back on Halloween night if a virgin lights a candle. A boy (Katz), his sister (Birch), and his crush (Shaw) need to work together to defeat the witches before they can suck the life out of all the children of Salem. Birch is cute and funny. She is the best of the child actors. There are some good musical numbers which one would expect with Bette Midler in the starring role. It's comfortable.

Broadly silly comedy works best whenever its three broads are centre stage - subtle they ain't, but Midler, Najimy and Parker seem to be having a whale of a time outrageously hamming it up. Switch to the duller story of the child heroes quests bogs things down, though Birch manages to pull off the obnoxious kid-sister archetype better than most; Katz and Shaw are terminally bland heroes but are likable enough.

This is definitely a guilty pleasure type of movie where I know my rating will be higher than most other people's. The concept is a bit silly but it was meant to be a kid's movie. Besides, where else are you ever going to see the now-dignified Sarah Jessica Parker jump up and down going, 'Amok, amok, amok, amok, amok!'

Thora Birch is hilarious. Disney's optimistic spirit is contagious. Otherwise, this is too hokey to be enjoyable. It relies far too much on a gimmick and ends up being ridiculous... not in a good way. Cute, but bad. Very bad. Nostalgia is a hell of a drug.

Mistakes - 1) When the witches take Dani back to the museum, the rope they use to tie her up with changes from shot to shot. First it's up around her neck, then it's around her chest. 2) Binx is shown pouring hot liquid from a cauldron that is over a flame, the iron would be too hot for him to touch without getting burned.

A little strange that this film aims to entertain the youngest of kids, but also has some weirdly overt sexual overtones for a kids movie. There is some fun to be had here, with the best performances by Thora Birch and Sarah Jessica Parker. But there's ultimately too much fluff.
