This is a really well written movie with a great performance from Nicholson. It's not very gripping or intense like it should be, I don't think Devito is talented enough as a director to accomplish what he should've.

An interesting look at Jimmy Hoffa, with good performances from Nicholson & Devito.

Amazing job by Jack Nicholson. I love his acting! A fascinating story, great screenplay by David Mamet. Not a perfect movie by far, but definitely a great one.

No heart to this movie, and no real historical perspective.

Jack Nicholson in yet another terrific performance. But I found the story to be very flawed. It doesn't do a good job of grasping you. It was poorly directed.

While stylistically the film isn't contextualized to procure a inner-directed window into the background motivations of Jimmy Hoffa's tireless character; it devotes the bulk of it's content to the unrestrained verbosity and the astutely ossified efforts of Hoffas onerous ultimatum: A man who not only sheds blood, sweat, and tears for the Union; but his conviction to the Teamsters transcends the safekeeping of his own family and self-interests. Jack Nicholson glows with an halo of arrant passion.

Give DeVito a break. No, the film's not very emotionally involving for one that takes itself so seriously on appearance, but that doesn't make it any less fascinating. Nicholson's top-notch performance doesn't hurt either.

The end is neat, but too much of this was fictional or overblown. Not emotionally involving at all.

This movie is all surface. So very little is said about a fascinating historical figure. Further marred by DeVito's need to wave the camera around to prove what a genius he is

Nice performance from Jack. It seemed, at times, to be overstated, but possibly that's how Hoffa was in real life; I'm not sure. The movie seemed overlong without a whole lot of story to carry it along, but I didn't dislike it.

Very interesting movie. DeVito is excellent as Hoffa's right hand man, but Nicholson feels forced throughout. The story ends up more as the journey of DeVito's character, Bobby Ciaro, than about Hoffa.

This movie has the stupidest cussing language that I have ever seen in a film. Someone made a monumentally bad decision to replace words like bullshitter with "pool shooter" and so on. Give me a break, this kind of crap ruins the movie and makes the serious sections laughable.

DeVito and Mamet seem a bit outside of their element here, failing to bring the true story to life on screen in an entirely convincing way. I wouldn't call it bad, it held my interest, but it just doesn't work beyond that.

DeVito went apeshit with the ~fancy shots~. The best shots however in this movie are when DeVito is walking in a large crowd; looks like a lil munchkin. John C. Reilly.

In the context of most commercial movies, which insist on explaining too much or repeating the obvious, Hoffa remains a reasonably detached consideration of the career of a man whose ties to the Mafia not only cost the rank-and-file teamsters millions but also set a pattern for corruption that tainted the entire labor movement. It's a quintessentially American story, for only here did Big Labor become a big business to rival Big Business.
