When you have eliminated all which is impossible, then whatever remains, however improbable, must be the truth ... I am a dumb stupid idiot.

Amusing if uneven comedy has an admirable 'throw everything at the wall and see what sticks' sensibility; the scattershot approach means that anything better than a 50% hit rate would be an achievement. Thankfully Reilly and Ferrell's easy chemistry with each other makes this infinitely more tolerable than if it had been in other hands, and there are some inspired moments of off-the-wall lunacy. Far from a misbegotten masterpiece, but still a lot of fun, with Ferris a hoot as Queen Victoria.

I can't believe how much hate this movie is getting. Honestly, I got what I was expecting out of a Will Ferrell comedy. Yeah, not all the jokes work and the writing could be better, but I got a few genuine laughs and think the chemistry and banter between Ferrell and Reilly's characters were great. I really liked the musical number and yeah it was stupid but I wasn't expecting like a smart comedy. Not saying it was amazing, but I don't feel it was nearly as awful as everyone was saying it was.

This is not a score I give lightly. "Holmes & Watson" really is THAT bad. Very few films have made me actively feel the urge to get out of my seat and leave, but I came close a few times. I've seen comedies that are unfunny, films that are completely inept, but every piece of this pitiful excuse of a movie falls to pieces under seemingly no pressure at all. A light prod is all it takes for this bloated, agonizingly unfunny house of cards to collapse in on itself. Elementary? Not even close

Holy shit that was rough. I laughed at just about every joke when Ferrell wasn't on screen out of sheer relief. Seriously, I so desperately wanted it to stop that when the movie cut to two dogs attacking a straw doll I laughed. Not smirked, not chuckled, I went AAHAHAHAH as if it was even a joke. It's almost a low rent parody of a Ferrell-Reilly movie that by some dumb fluke stars Ferrell and Reilly. The best joke is a Billy Zane cameo. No, really. Let that sink in

Rejected by Netflix, H+W is perhaps not as awful as critics said, but it's a definite misfire whose slapstick antics seem completely out of step with contemporary sensibilities. It plays like a comedy from the late 00's, and the script has apparently been floating around since that time. Ferrell and Riley work so well together and have such natural chemistry that makes them watchable even when the gags aren't hitting, but they can't improvise their way around Cohen's mediocre material.

Usually, Will Ferrel movies keep it simple and between funny and nearly funny. Don't need to expect much, some surprise cameos and references make it cool yet there were tons of cliche jokes and terrible scenes that make you want to puke; literally. Also; Kelly Macdonald did a weird job. Not good, not bad but weird.

[Didn't finish] I usually think that Will Ferrell can be funny reading a phone book, especially when he's working with John C. Reilly. But after about 30 minutes with only a half-hearted chuckle or two, I had to admit that this one was a dud.

Just absurd. But I laughed. One of the best things about watching this at the cinema--besides the shameless snickers from other members of my demographic throughout the mostly empty theatre--was the elderly couple in front of us, maybe mid-seventies, who just didn't seem to be laughing very much. Turns out they were expecting an actual Sherlock Holmes movie, to follow-up the TV special on him they'd watched the night before... And still they stayed to the bitter end, what a pair of troopers!

I love the cast but this was just painful to watch. I guess that makes it all the more disappointing, as I would have expected more from this... like, much more. If it's at all possible to avoid this, then please do so, otherwise, you'll be wondering why they even bothered with this.

Sure this is a terrible film, but at the very least it features a very brief and thus fantastic Billy Zane (as 'Caledon Hockley') cameo. But as with everything I've read/seen about Sherlock Holmes, abduction is mislabelled as deduction in this cinematic version of the story; as a Peircean this really shits me! However, some of the jokes about inquiry are humorous. Millie is the personification of Peirce's maxim, "Do not block the way of inquiry", although I doubt Cohen realises this.

It kind of wavers between dumb enough to be funny, and too dumb to be funny. I think it would have been better in smaller doses, the same way some comedy tv show have good seasons but bad movies made out of them. It would have allowed to get more into parodying the Victorian Era without letting the audience get fed up with the Will Ferrell antics.

It sure wasn't great, but there were laughs to be had. Certainly not the worst movie of the year.

It's dumb, but that is somewhat forgivable. Especially because Will Ferrell and John C. Reilly have made masterpieces out of idiocy in the past. The film's true crime is that it has the audacity to be boring.

A colossal waste of time and talent. Holmes & Watson is a puerile and worse unfunny movie. One that seemily channels the spirit of Epic Movie and the other parody movie that felt dated a decade ago, but with even less integrity. It won a Razzy, but it's beyond the so-bad-it’s-good territory that it circles back to irredeemable.

The laziest...from the already dated references to selfies and drunk-texts to the, for some reason, played straight anachronism of the Titanic appearing, to the horribly defined protagonist. Is Holmes a lucky idiot or is helpless but propped up by Watson a la Without a Clue or is he a brilliant detective who just happens to act like an idiot throughout the film. It's all 3 and none of the above and the movie doesn't even figure Ferrell acting like a belligerent idiot very often. He's just bland.

Ferrell's movies are pretty hit and miss, but this is hardly the worst comedy out there. This is not even Ferrell's worst comedy. Yeah, most of the jokes are juvenile and if that stupid moustache guise scene had been removed, the movie would have averaged far higher on the comedy scale. Fun take on the iconic character and some jokes manage to land tho most don't.

This film has a really bad script. The comedic talents of Will Ferrell and John C. Reilly are wasted with only a few laughs in this film. The 2 have worked together in funnier films before. Overall this film is clearly a misfire.

Not nearly as bad as many are making it out to be... if you stop about 45 min in. The premise would have worked just fine with a properly involved Sherlock tale but they neglected to make that part of the tale. Instead, it's just Ferrell and Reilly goofing around, occasionally to entertaining effect. I'll never forget the autopsy scene.

This is exactly what you would expect from a movie with Will Ferrell. Honestly you can guess most of the jokes before seeing the comedy. One is only left to wonder, why is Hugh Laurie in it?

Wow this piece of sh!t needs editing or a total re-write! Any experienced director would been shouting: "Cut what the f#ck is happening?" But the director, Etan Cohen, is a totally newbie that only ever directed one other really bad film, Get Hard! So really shame on us for watching, fooled me twice!

A wild comic Sherlock Holmes mess with Will Ferrell & John C. Reilly going at it without restraint! Could probable have needed someone with a whip behind the camera to focus the gags a little bit, but take the madness in, appreciate it and don't fear stupidity!

Feelgood no-brainer. Most of it's not funny at all (quite the opposite), yet the anarchistic attitude and the boldness with which all the nonsense and tastelessness is put forth makes this very likeable. Like Marx Brothers, but without the aptitude.
