DreamWorks movies are consistantly overshadowed by Pixar, but they're generally competent kids movies. The reason they stand by the wayside is that "Home" and their library in general lack the depth and overall nods to adults that Pixar has made a staple in animation in the new millennium. This one is good enough, my kids enjoyed it, but I wouldn't recommend it to anyone over the age of thirteen.

10 year old Rihanna listens to 30 year old Rihanna while trying to teach Sheldon from Big Bang Theory how to be a human. Having watched 10 seasons of the aforementioned show I know it is impossible for Sheldon to be a human being, therefore this movie is awful. It actually IS awful as a movie too. We didn't even finish watching it. Don't even care if it got better. SINGLE DIGIT RATING!

You know, it's honestly not terrible - mostly due to a strong third act. But before that third-act plot actually starts happening, it's a plotless, unfunny mess with WAY too many shoehorned Rihanna song montages and some fairly annoying voice acting. I do like a lot of Dreamworks Animation's stuff, but in the end, this one is a rental for the kids at best.

One of the worst animated films from Dreamworks. At least from the perspective of an adult viewer. Full of plot holes and conveniences. Also really manipulative in trying to pull emotion. Bright and goofy characters aren't enough to make it compelling in any way, although children will probably enjoy it well enough.

This feels like they took a lot of the criticism of the public (stop making 9 main characters per movie, minority girl lead) pitched it to the board, and then said we'll fill in the storyboards later and then never did. Super empty and by the numbers, clearly wanted to create the new minions as a kicker. Not actively bad, just the worst dreamworks/pixar movie because it's devoid of the joy and detail they usually carry.

An average screenplay destroyed by completely inept directing and horrible unfunny gags and jokes. Any time the film had a good moment or idea they beat it to death with a lame joke or cringe worthy dialogue.

Maybe just a bit broad and simple to stand up against the stronger offerings from the studio (and its competitors), and probably holds more appeal to the very young as opposed to families. There is still a fair bit to enjoy here, it is fun and colourful, and there are some good ideas, but I suspect it has limited rewatch value.

Be yourself, says this movie. Also sometimes life is sad, and we know when it's sad because that's when everything slows way down and some sort of goopy, ballad-y song swells up on the soundtrack. Also please don't forget to be yourself, because that's important. If you've got kids, they'll love this, so drop them off at the theater and let them have at it. I definitely wouldn't advise you to go in and sit through this with them, though.

Home is a movie about Jar Jar Binks; at least Oh bears a striking resemblance to the walking disaster. The first half of the film is riddled with plot holes, a moronic premise and is frankly quite terrible. Fortunately, the second half makes strides to redeem itself with a more engaging plot, more heart, and a little less stupidity. The animation is colourful and I thought the girl's hair was particularly well done. The voice acting's good, though I found Parsons' voice a little too distinctive.

It's not a bad film, and it does several things well, like the strong human protagonist and some of the small moments, but the aliens are mostly annoying and that includes the co-lead. It's also very heavy on laying out the moral of the story, but very weak on actually doing anything interesting with it, which makes it feel all the more hollow and forced.

The joke here is that the Boov speak broken English, and boy, the writers think it's a REALLY good joke, because it's pretty much the only joke in the whole movie. Conceptually there's some neat ideas banging around, but it gets bogged down in attempts to appeal to the largest family audience possible. Steve Martin puts in a surprising amount of energy, which is nice. I guess.

There are children's movies and there are family movies, and Home falls quite comfortably into the former category. It's not going to appeal much to those over the age of ten, and parents dragged along to see it aren't going to get anything of value. It preaches how important family is, which isn't a bad message, but that's all it has on its mind. Parents should practice what it preaches and do something more involving with their children; that'll teach them the lesson better than Home will.

Cute movie, the dancey pop music worked surprisingly well most of the time although they could've tuned down with the Rihanna-songs a bit. Other than that I quite enjoyed her voice acting. It's a fun movie but will probably be enjoyed more by children than adults (which is totally fine).

The decision to use Rihanna's songs as most of soundtrack was a horrible decision, since her dance-pop sound almost never meshes together with the action on screen. However Rihanna is a surprisingly okay voice actor, unlike Parsons, who simply and annoyingly re-skins his Big Bang Theory character in a Yoda-esque voice. Overall it's a mediocre story cobbled together from rejected Lilo and Stitch scripts. It's Bearable to watch I suppose, but nothing special.

One of the lower points on the extremely erratic Dreamworks-coaster. I struggle to even take them seriously at this point, for every How to Train Your Dragon there's five Homes stinking up theaters. In everything but the animation quality, this is direct-to-video, cash-in Disneytoon Studios sequel level.

I didn't expect a lot, but actually found "Home" rather entertaining. I liked how easy it is to feel why Oh is perceived as annoying, that it's a girl protagonist in an Adventure and all the small super cat-like traits of Pig. Plot-wise there's no great surprises, but a nice enough moral lesson to take home: Just don't mess with other people's kids or they will destroy you.

Not good. The film is not just plot heavy, but it also feels contrived and messy. Because I am an old man now, I fell asleep with about a half hour left. Age is a fickle thing. I'm starting to lose my hair, I have aches in new places, and I now fall asleep at a respectable time. I apologize to you if you are upset that I am rating this film without getting the full "Home" experience.

In addition to ridiculously-high standards for comic book movies, we also have ridiculously-high standards for kids movies in 2015. And for me, as an adult, this didn't get it done quite enough. Don't get me wrong, this is nowhere near a bad movie, and the kids will eat it up. The animation is spectacular and I think, had this movie come out pre-Wall-E, it would be pretty well-thought-of. The final ten minutes are great but you gotta GET there first, and too little worthwhile happens beforehand.

In the midst of fast-paced antics, tykes will find some solid encouragement to look beneath the surface and seek out the heart and unique qualities of the "misfits" around them. They'll also find themselves thinking that sometimes a little extra bravery is required if you want to do right by those you love. There's even a subtle statement here about the potentially isolating nature of social media--especially when compared to the joy of really plugging in with family and friends. (pluggedin.com

There's many places like Home - this unoriginal animation will please younger viewers but may not satisfy anyone older. The animation is very colourful but generally ok - not terrible but not excellent and the story is very jumbled. Jim Parsons creates a memorable character and the final act is very emotional. Home is a fun movie but I think I'll view another house.

A bit of a mixed bag, really. Never anything less than a pleasure to look at. Lots of great concepts. Surprisingly sharp voice work from Jim Parsons and Rihanna. But the story whole cribs from Lilo & Stitch a whole lot, and it all feels room-written, in a bad way - like two or three screenplays or ideas were smushed together at the last minute to meet a deadline. And there's the now-inevitable Dreamworks Dance Denouement (TM), which kinda sucks. A shame, as there's lots to like here.

This film isn't as comforting as home, but it was pretty sweet. I thought that Rihanna and Jim Parsons both voiced the movie well. The characters names were really funny too. Everything was bright shiny and perfect for little kids. The problem was, this movie really was just geared for kids. As some animated features will be great until the day you die, I don't see this movie being one of them...

Very apropos thanksgiving, this touches on colonization. Like, there were things in this movie that made me go "Whoa, shots fired!" but it ends up being too kidfriendly on the subject. Not perfectly executed and the moral felt pretty banal, but I did care about the characters and there were scenes that made me laugh and others that made me go "Aaww!" and hug a kitten. The cat was great.

I really wanted to love this. The Boovs were kind of cute with the way the change color and stuff. Unfortunately the aim audience was a little lower then what was good for this DreamWorks production. And along with it any kind of fresh approach. How come humans are always so extremely lame in mainstream films? Doesn't help to have hip artist like Rihanna voicing when the character is so transparent that one don't give a shit about her. Worst of all was the extreme moral lessons of friendship.

Problem with this is that it's too stupid (sorry kids) for adults. So you might find yourself laughing at certain points, but you're perpetually rolling your eyes as well. Jim Parson is essentially Sheldon and Rihanna is super miscast in this role (though her music is good). It's predictable and theirs not much else to like.

An alien culture where citizens strive to be part of a crowd, where everyone is on their phones and running away from your problems is the admirable thing to do; the Boov are a laughable lot to us. In retrospect though, their world runs parallel to ours. It's like the #nacirema satirical case study all over again. Watching what is essentially Rihanna and a nicer Sheldon Cooper in the same movie also blows my mind a little.

From the perspective of the little six-legged space aliens called the Boov, that's a difficult question to answer. They seem to be eternally on the run--from planet to planet and solar system to solar system--in constant dread of their mortal enemy, the Gorg. So, finding a place to settle down isn't easy. As their beloved leader, Captain Smek, is so fond of saying, "It's never too late ... to run away."

When you don't have any actual emotional beats because your plot is just a chase movie so you have to blast Rihanna songs at your audience for them to have even a twitch of feelings because Rihanna is your star and you're probably contractually obligated to play a Rihanna song every 8 minutes anyway. Whatever. It's loud, it's colorful, it's musical. I can't hate it. Even if I did sleep through an entire setpieces (whatever happened in Paris, right the hell out zzzzzzz).

Nice designs. I can't stand Jim Parsons' socially-inept character but at least it makes sense in Big Bang Theory; here he's just annoying and unbelievable from a protagonist who saves the world. DreamWorks is maybe nearly as technically proficient as Pixar, but DW's movies lack heart but instead focus on cheap laughs and needle drops. Fav scenes: seriously, the Boovs are so inept that they have a "send all" button and a child figures out their tech and tips over the Eiffel Tower?

Film is pretty charmless, with annoying characters. It won't surprise, is barely funny, and wasn't very memorable. This highlights the difference between Dreamworks Animation and Pixar. While Dreamworks can find occasional gold (Shrek, Madagascar, Kung-Fu Panda, and How to Train Your Dragon), they then have to beat those franchises to death. And the best of Dreamworks makes for an average Pixar fare.

The idea that the Boov really are unknowingly the conquering “villains” is the most interesting aspect of this. But this being an animation primarily meant for young kids this idea is of course under explored. Apart from that it does have some fun moments, but mostly is very forgettable because of a run of the mill plot and lesser copy of the Lilo & Stich team up of a young girl and alien misfits.
