During the Christmas season, our wise-cracking protagonist (who has serious family problems) single-handedly takes out multiple criminals guerrilla-style and appears to be victorious, but at the last second has to be saved by his friend (who has personal problems of his own). Man, Die Hard is such a great movie.

Of the scant few now classic Christmas movies to come out during my lifetime, this one is of an even rarer breed of being one that I not only enjoyed in my childhood, but holds up into my adulthood. Not a lot of movies satisfy both my inner child and me simultaneously.

Amusing and highly rewatchable Christmas classic which should entertain the whole family. Rewatching it as an adult I like the sweet side-story with the neighbour more than the slapstick but it's the three main performances that make the film. And the music.

Do you know anyone who hasn’t seen this movie? Yeah me neither. I personally love it. It’s definitely nostalgic for me at this point, but I’d be lying if I said seeing Joe Pesci and Daniel Stern yell at each other and get the snot kicked out of them by a child isn’t entertaining as hell. John Hughes pretty much only makes good Christmas movies and this one might just be my favorite. It’s got a nice message or two about family and Culkin is really good. Amazing music too.

I don't think there's ever been a more perfect kids' movie which delivers on every level. Contains scenes of bed-jumping, ice cream gluttony, air rifles, pizza, tarantulas, macaroni cheese, bathroom singing, popcorn, laundry chutes, zipwiring, remote control use, coupons, firecrackers, micro machines, and of course, Christmas Day. What's not to love? On top of all the slapstick fun it has great music, the hugely poignant Mom-Kevin subplot, and the heartwarming old man subplot. A true classic.

Ingenious Kurosawa remake. Replacing of all the seven samurais with merely 10-year-old Culkin might still be considered one of the boldest decisions in cinematic history, dare I say one of the most fruitful as well. Among the greatest siege movies ever made.

I remember loving this as a kid but upon recent viewing I can safely say it hasn't really stood the test of time. I feel bad for Culkin having is career nose-dived by this famous, or infamous, role. Kids will like this but that's about it.

Culkin's cute and clever Kevin confidently carries this kooky Christmas classic, with help from Pesci and Stern's easy-to-laugh-at bungling burglars. The slapstick comedy of the third act is the obvious highlight ("Why the hell did you take off your shoes?" "Why the hell are you dressed like a chicken?") but solid writing engages you until then (see the grocery store scene; the subplot with Marley). The redemptive arc with the family didn't hit home though (poor Kevin didn't need to feel sorry).

I hadn’t seen it in over a decade, but a fresh viewing reveals a truly effervescent script by Hughes and… is this John Williams’ best soundtrack?… is that possib…?… anyway, the McCallisters’ status as awful human beings aged like fine scotch (I still hate them) and the subplot with the old man still got my feels. Christmas movies also have a wanton violence quota (just think about it) - it’s a home run on all fronts.

The burglar torture porn you probably remember isn't as long or as funny as you thought....Culkin's precocious talent stands the test of time, ably matched by nemesis Pesci. My name in real life is Kevin so naturally when I saw this movie as a child I told all of my 5 year old friends that I was in fact the same Kevin from the movie. I thrilled them with the recounting of adventures had against those awful criminals and the clever traps I set for them, embellishing all the time undoubtedly. I apparently wasn't a very good actor at the time though because upon seeing this movie again I'm not really a fan.

Despite the saccharine holiday movie boilerplate about love and family, this film's real message is that it's joyous to torture your fellow human beings with fire, blunt objects, power tools, staples, spray paint, bb guns, nails, tarantulas and glass Christmas ornaments.

Probably the funniest comedy of the nineties. I saw this film, in the theater, before the commercials came out. I had no idea what to expect. I LITTERALLY fell out of my seat laughing. The iron scene is what finally did me in. The whole cast from Culkin through Pesci and Stern was phenominal. ANd then you have the scenes between John Candy and Catherine O'Hara. I may never look at polka the same way again (or funeral homes).

If you were five years old in 1990, this movie was utterly amazing, it had it all. Kids beating evil grown-ups with traps, ridiculous comedy, a holiday motif, Macaulay Culkin screaming, epic John Williams music. It owned. If you first saw it as a grownup feel free to hate, but if claim you didn't like it as a little kid you're a goddamn liar.

Home Alone is brutal from beginning to end. Both emotionally and physically. In the hands of any other creative team this could have easily become a horror movie. However with the cuteness of the young Culkin and the comedic talents of Joe Pesci and Daniel Stern. Even watching their pratfalls and pain winds up being funny rather than disturbing. Home Alone is a tricky tightrope and an Christmas classic in its own right.

Home Alone was and still is a watershed success, and has throughout my life has been a traditional holiday film to watch on TV when getting bored with company. And even as an adult, it's quite gratifying as long as it indulges the pipe dream of an overlooked little boy having an entire house of his own to infinitely play in, and its unequivocal highlight comes when he reveals uncanny shrewdness and stratagem. The pratfalls and booby traps never get old. The spider on the face still gets me weak.
