Initially intriguing drama loses its momentum as it develops, with a resolution to its story which unfortunately relates on absurdly superficial, dated psychology. Ultimately worthy of a historical footnote as Richardson's sole effort behind the camera, but as director he proves himself to be lacklustre and functional at best. Some fine performances (especially from Leighton) provide some compensation.

That time Ralph Richardson got to direct himself and had to try to remember what he'd done the previous night so to not get accused of murder. Curious dilemma, which I feel he could have gotten more out of. Still a pleasant one, as it takes a very casual approach to it all.
