very silly film that kept me guessing...it wasn't spectacular but it made me laugh and had some clever moments and also some heartfelt moments. McDermott role was a bit cringe and subtracted some from the quality...

I got through it, but this movie was cringe-worthy at times. Holly hunter and Robert Downey Jr. were presumably meant to be sympathetic, but they acted like very annoying drunk people the entire movie. The characters in general acted immature and even childish, with inappropriate behavior and contrived eccentricity that did not come across as charming.

It's okay, just a silly family reunion film without needing any serious stakes besides Hunter's life being a mess. It reminded me of several other similar films, like The Family Stone and While You Were Sleeping. The romantic couple were distracting doppelgangers of Ross and Rachel. Fav scene: Geraldine Chaplin's crazy aunt bringing up a kiss with the dad during dinner.

Contrived, unpleasant comedy-drama about the horrors of a family holiday gathering. Insert as many cliches as possible, while adding unpleasant characters and ridiculous slapstick.

Snoozefest.

The opening titles are excellent, and Downey Jr. does his best to inject a little fun into the movie, but the whole affair is brought low by a bevy of bad decisions including a nonsensical, seemingly improvised script, irritating characters, pointless characters, unnecessary interstitial titles, etc.

Holy cow, did this movie ever not need Dylan McDermott.
