Louie and Buscemi are great as the leads. That said, the real stars of the show are Steven Wright, Kurt Metzger's bug eyes, Laurie Metcalf, Alan Alda, Paul Simon's subtle music, the long takes, and (especially in the last few episodes) Edie Falco. I actually have a similar hope for the success of the projecat as I did for Boyhood. While I think this was much better, I hope it's uniqueness & willingness to take risks gives opportunities for more creators to do the same. Kurt Metzger has bug eyes.

Honest. Real. Brilliant. Kinda think it takes a stand-up comic to write something as human+tragic as this. Never has Alan Alda been this great.

Horace and Pete builds slowly into something well worth the $31 it costs to own it. Each episode showcases brilliant performances from the actors, which all adds up to a short lived tale about a few random people inside a 100 year old bar in NYC. Louis CK has something to be proud of here. The live feel garners access to some wonderful long takes, which really emphasizes the talent. Laurie Metcalf's monologue is worth the price of admission alone, but Flaco takes the series.

This is by no means slick, but it's full of great interactions and performances -and really captures the zeitgeist in which we are now living. Only one episode in and so far it doesn't fail to captivate.

The aesthetics of televised stage plays (complete with mic hum). I might be giving CK the benefit of the doubt, because beyond the intended and appreciated roughness, it's definitely not flawless. Most performances are excellent (even CK is good) but not all the barflies are up to task, and the majority of their earnest discussions of Big Issues are insufferable and unnecessary. The writing is sometimes quite on-the-nose, particularly in the last episode. Still, this is a stunning achievement.

Lucky Louie+Louie. If you love Louis and are more familiar with him you'll like this more. It's weird. Started with lots of boredom. People go into long stories unrealistically. Some characters suck some are great. Repetitive themes ok. Fire shit that would fit on Louie. At episode 6 and it's gone from a 60 to an 80

Laurie Metcalf's scene alone makes this worth your while. Also kind of amazing in a tragicomic way that CK made this as his opus, making a legitimate shift from comedy to drama, only to be professionally torpedoed within a year for the most pathetic form of sexual assault.

Amazingly, it's even blander than "Louie".

Dialing up the Chekov, you go girl. I agree with Pesci on the stand up but love CK's tv. This is a downer though. Wish the unobtanium that Buscemi needed wasn't so hard to obtain! Corporations are such douchebags!!!

Still trying to compile my overall thoughts on this show, since I think some scenes (involving young people or contrary character traits) needed more rewrites, though, boosted by one of the most affecting and memorable theme tunes, this is a high-quality show with a theatrical focus on the writing and acting. The storyline is ridiculously tragic, but the show balances a nice ratio of feels, laughs, and a combination of both. A special show, I'd love to see a second season.

Normally I'm a huge fan of Louis CK's work, but this one didn't quite come together for me. It has some definite high points and is worth watching for a few of the performances, however I found nearly all of the characters very unenjoyable. The plot is not well developed from episode to episode, the characterisation is inconsistent and buying into the story occasionally requires enormous suspension of disbelief.

The production history is more touching than the material. I don't think CK successfully distinguishes the characters, especially the supporting women, from their thematic purpose or really his own voice (e.g. Jenny and Rhonda separately citing men's moving ability as central to their conception of the genders). But the passion that went into this tale by, for, and about sad old men weighs on you, even if it gets to feeling like twelve hours of "Tony never had the makings of a varsity athlete"

It's been a long while since I was this impacted by a tv show. The first 6 episodes are absolute masterpieces of dialogue and narration (E03 OMG). I couldn't get enough and I really didn't want it to end. Horace and Pete is one of the most beautiful tragedies I've seen. It clearly showed me that I crave and love story telling. Getting rid of Alan Alda was the worst decision they made all season and the drop in quality was felt instantly. He was so incredibly good. Alongside Laurie Metcalf.
