The best written character of them all was Caleb Sykes (played by Jamie Campbell Bower). Otherwise, the whole movie was like a bad TV series. The end of chapter 1 was spoiling for future chapters. I had no desire to go on with the saga.

This was a bit better than I was expecting given tepid reviews. Certain parts drag and the first hour can be a bit of a slog, but it doesn't quite feel its length and there are a lot of very good scenes. It's very much a setup for the next part in many ways, but it left me wanting to see the second. If you cut out 20-30 minutes to speed up some of the pacing that dragged they might have really had something, but this is generally better than it's being given credit for.

I thought it was well paced, well written with a great story of 3 which each arc together later on. The music was definitely inspired/copied by past westerns but you need some originality. Some unbelievable parts like free black men talking like friends with whites due to the era. I thoroughly enjoyed it and can’t wait for the english women to get a taste of work. Bad bit is probably the ending which spoiled the next film quite a bit. Could have done that a bit better

Kind of hard to rate at this point since everything is left open. Might have to revisit my score later and rate these all as a whole.

In desperate need of an editor, this movie feels even longer than 3 hours. Why Costner, why.

In "Horizon: An American Saga - Chapter 1," Kevin Costner aims to craft an epic Western with a narrative spanning many hours. While this ambitious project holds promise, the first film doesn’t meet expectations. Rather than building to a climax, it ends with what feels like an extended teaser for future installments. Though it has the potential to become a favorite Western when complete, as a standalone film, it misses the mark.
