Horror Noire: A History of Black Horror

I love horror documentaries and Horror Noire is one that I was looking forward to for quite a while. The doc is informative and offers detailed viewpoints on horror as viewed through a racial lens. The horror genre's evolution in accordance and sometimes discordance to real-world race relations is probably complex enough to warrant a 5-hour documentary but this 1.5 hour film digs deep enough to accomplish its mission statement.

A very nice overview of a topic that's interesting, important, and that's had too little attention up until now. I wouldn't say the documentary itself is particularly groundbreaking, but thanks to the subject matter and the people in it, it manages to stay interesting and entertaining throughout. Happy to see that this kind of movie can finally make it out into the spotlight.

As with most film and more specifically genre and horror documentaries I'm always left slightly disappointed and wanting it to be more than just a shallow once over of the subject.

I gave this a middling review until the last 10 minutes when it shat the bed.
