It's the Marx brothers. It's corny. It's funny.

I have to write this review, but there's no reason you folks can't go out into the lobby until the screen saver comes on. Everyone is pretty good in this, the song is finally woven into the story, such as it is, properly. It's got a bunch of great period bits that stand up, the college satire, gamblers, a speakeasy, an old school football game.

Probably my second or third favourite Marx brothers film. DUCK SOUP is the best, with this and A DAY AT THE RACES at the next level.

Not quite as funny as Monkey Business, but damn near close and the finale was much much goofier and more spectacular. Nobody really gets in their way this time either, there's really very little interaction with the straight world (it does exist in this film, moreso than the others, but it's vanishingly consequential at best) and the film greatly benefits from it. And, "I'm Against It." I sing that song aloud at least twice a week. Catchy as all get out, that song is.

Amusing Marx Brothers zaniness, it hits more than it misses, but it still misses a lot for my taste.

one of the better early marx brothers movies. sadly, i have yet to see one that blew me away, because i have only a couple left to see. this one is one that i do not completely regret watching, yet i still find that all the hullabaloo is unjustified and the humor is overstated. writing wise, i've never heard a single person say that a marx brothers movie was a priceless piece of cinema.

duck soup or night at the opera are slightly better, overall, but you really cant go wrong here. groucho is the king of the one-liners, whether they be ironic or non sequiters, though he is rivaled by the ultimate flim-flam man in chico.

The best of the Marx Brothers' films, though to be honest, you really can't go wrong watching one of their masterworks.

Have you seen one Marx Brothers movie, you've seen 'em all. Or at least know what you are getting. Wacky, stupid and dry comedy thats all over the place. This one is at the same level of their other movies from the first half of the 30's. And you'll enjoy this very much if you like the Marx Brother. This one spoofs college life and American football.

The one about a University. Horse Feathers has the bizzare distinction of having the most famous Marx Brothers scene in it, (the Swordfish scene,) while simultaneously being totally forgettable. It's really not good. It had a whole lot of Chico and Harpo in it, which may explain its quality. I mean, the football sequence at the end is just so incredibly stupid, and goes on forever. The Swordfish scene is on youtube, I'd say just watch that there and skip this movie. They made better ones.

The gender roles of this film may be a little outdated (but cut out the very end and it doesn't offend as much), but it is undeniably hilarious. Non-stop jokes that hit every mark - a quantity that rivals Airplane! and is lightning fast. The dialogue is witty and smart. The slapstick is a great addition. The story was weak, but who cares when it's this good of a film.

I was into the general fast-paced absurdity of the thing, but it didn't make me laugh very much. A few too many groan-worthy dad jokes and puns. Harpo's antics are pretty fun, and then he mugs at the camera and my skin tries to crawl off my body.

One of my two favorite Marx Brothers movies (the other is "Monkey Business") probably because both of them feature the witty dialogue of S.J. Perleman. Although not as surrealistic as "Duck Soup," this movie's college football plot--though disposable--is an effective device for moving the film along.

(Movie 750) It's very funny, the Marx Brothers generally are, but it is sort of bogged down in the thing that nearly kills all of their movies, the musical numbers. When Chico and Harpo show off their instrumental talent, it is nice. But the singing? Not so much.

Horse Feathers is the greatest college comedy ever made. Like The Freshman, it's more farce than satire, but it pushes its portrayal of campus life much further into the realm of absurdity. Unlike Lloyd, The Marx's aren't trying to fit in, they are anarchic court jesters subverting the status quo with demented glee. The gags are delivered at a machine gun pace, and the brothers bounce jokes off each other with a near telepathic interplay, while Todd is once again a fine foil. Swordfish!

I love the comedy teams of the black and white era. In my opinion, the Marx brothers were the worst of these though. I thought they were very unfunny and the jokes and their stories didn't make much sense. This movie is a prime example of that. That had to be one of the worst football sequences I've ever watched. I know that I'm in the minority in this, but the Marx brothers are just plain unfunny.

Groucho is the new president of Huxley University, which his son Zeppo attends. They put their heads together and decide that the problem with Huxley is that they don't win at football, so Groucho heads off to the local speakeasy where the two best players in town hang out. He accidentally recruits Chico and Harpo instead, and lots of anarchic mayhem ensues. This isn't their best film ... but it's damn good. It has the best music in any Marx Brothers film.

A first rate indulgence of pure silliness, with gags flying and pummelling the audience so quickly and brutally that it becomes impossible to track the hit-to-miss ratio; suffice to say the three leading brothers are in terrific form (with Zeppo bringing up the rear, save for a wonderful rendition of ‘Everyone Says I Love You’) making this is the sharpest and snappiest of the brothers’ films seen to date.

Non-stop nonsense as the Marx Brothers encounter every cliche of the "Got to save the Big Game!" genre at once, not that any of it is of much concern to them on whatever plane of absurdity their films have ascended to by this point. Swordfish.
