Hostages (1943)
Luise Rainer's last Hollywood film was the economically produced wartime drama Hostages. Adapted from the novel by Stefan Heym, the story is set in a Nazi-occupied Czechoslovakian village. Rainer plays Milada, the daughter of collaborationist Lev Preissinger (Oscar Homolka). Totally apolitical herself, Milada is won over to the anti-Nazi cause by resistance leader Paul Breda (Arturo de Cordova). (allmovie.com)

William Bendix is proving to be a valuable commodity in supporting roles. It always feels like they want to use him purely as comic relief, yet he keeps stealing pictures with a lot of personality. Here gaining a rather valuable role in the scheme of things against the Nazis. Lovely little game-play. Hostages (1943) might be best known for being Luise Rainer's only movie in the 1940s. She does fine. The film lacks ambitious to become anything more than a serviceable humiliation of the enemy.
