In this action-packed comedy from the makers of "Shaun of the Dead," Nicholas Angel (Pegg) is the finest police officer London has to offer, with an arrest record 400% higher than any other officer on the force. He's so good, he makes everyone else look bad. As a result, Angel's superiors send him to a place where his talents won't be quite so embarrassing -- the sleepy and seemingly crime-free village of Sandford. A small village is about to get some big city justice. (Rogue Pictures)

One of the most intricately plotted and impeccably structured comedies since Back to the Future. Seriously, the sheer number of clever setups and payoffs throughout the movie is insane. That it's also action-packed and hilarious - often simultaneously - is just icing on the cake.

I love over-the-top action movies with something special to them. An over-the-top action movie that is also hilariously satirizes it's own genre? Completely and utterly sold! I found it even better than Shaun of the Dead.

Outstanding action comedy that manages to work as an over-the-top blockbuster while lovingly lampooning them at the same time. It really stands up to repeat viewings, because the jokes are hilarious, and there is no wasted dialog in the entire movie -- every word serves to set something up for later: it's very economic storytelling that you don't really notice until you see it a few times. The cast is terrific all the way through, especially Timothy Dalton. I find it impossible not to love this.

Spoof/parody movies are hit and miss for me. Hot Fuzz is a total hit. God damn, I had a constant smile on my face from the goofy opening montage to the ridiculous ending shootout. You would truly have to be on your toes to catch even half of the references and freeze frame gags in this movie. I got quite a few, but I'm sure I missed twice as many. Lots of great characters and cameos here. I particularly liked Timothy Dalton and the insufferable smirk he wears throughout.

It's no surprise that the team of Simon Pegg and Edgar Wright have crafted a follow-up to Shaun of the Dead that's just as giddily engaging as their comic zombie romp. It is, however, a little startling to discover how good Pegg is at playing a wildly different character than his layabout hero Shaun. The screenplay is wonderfully constructed with sly details paying off beautifully in a third act that expertly mocks Hollywood action movies while gleefully reveling in their excess.

Edgar Wright’s ingenious blend of British chiller and American action blockbuster is a comedy masterclass; the combination of brilliant dialogue, homage, pastiche and slapstick, punctuated by his unique editing style and eye for tiny details, permits endless, laugh-filled re-watches. Pegg and Frost as a double act excel like never before or since.

Does for cop action movies what Shaun of the Dead did for zombie movies. I realize that's the most unoriginal thing you can possibly say about Hot Fuzz, but hey, it's true. It's a lively spoof, but one done with obvious love for the genre. The gags are very clever and really funny, loaded with references to other movies (including many I probably didn't recognize). Great cast and hilarious characters. I do wish there could have been more Stephen Merchant and Steve Coogan, though.

Hot damn, this is jam-packed full of all the riotous comedy and insane action sequences you could ever want in one movie, with the clever whiplash editing cinching it up together with the surprising whodunit plot into a compact water balloon of explosive fun to smash in your face. The sleepy yet secretly sinister small town setting is executed to perfection thanks to a great supporting cast and Pegg and Frost are a highly enjoyable odd couple at the forefront. Marvelously scripted throughout.

One of the more entertaining movies I've seen. Not only is it well-written and quite funny, but it has some of the most kick-ass action you could ask for in the last act. Even more entertaining on repeat viewings as you pick up on little extra bits that are real funny. Only real complaints is that it ran a bit long and there was a bit too much horror movie feel instead of buddy-cop/action (which it's supposed to be an homage to) leading up to the big reveal. Still great.

I'm telling you, Edgar Wright is a freakin' genius! Hot Fuzz is much like his first work, Shaun of the Dead, so there's plenty of humor, good acting and chemistry from Pegg and Frost, a good screenplay that manages to surprise you at times, and, of course, a really talented direction from Wright himself! This is probably my favorite from him, seeing as it's consistently surprising, funny, serious, and mysterious all at once without getting uneven. Really well acted and written.

Sublime! Yes, it just rips of loads of other films, but it doesn't hide that fact. It embraces that fact that it's just a bunch of action setpieces from other films and that is what makes it great. Add to that a ridiculously amazing cast, some great scriptwriting and superb performances and you've got yourself an amazing film. Hot Fuzz ticks all the right boxes, then ticks them all again just for good measure.

It's pretty slow in the beginning (pretty much just character building things), but when it picks up, it's beyond excellent. It's so over the top, but it never loses it's coolness. A gunfight to rival Way of the Gun, laughs and tongue in cheek humor the whole way, and it never loses it's charm. This movie is a gem.

Brilliant satire tailor-made for people who love cop movies. If you're used to watching boatloads of them, you can actually take this one seriously and it's still better than most. At the same time, I'm endlessly impressed by the comic creativity--the model town, the crossword jokes, "crusty jugglers"--I don't know how they came up with it all. Dalton and the two leads get all the praise for their performances, but everyone is spot-on. Really masterfully done, despite the veneer of silliness.

Started off a bit bland, but soon evolved into a mix of Shaun of the Dead, an actually good version of 2001 Maniacs and a white man's Bad Boys II. Suffice to say, it was great. Still liked Shaun of the Dead better though.. It's even less subtle than that film and it's not as funny. Still, Pegg & Frost are a match made in heaven, and the cast is great beside them as well. This was amusing, and occasionally laugh out loud funny. I appreciated the chemistry from the two leads, along with the overall commitment to zaniness. That said, films that rely heavily on references to other films need to do something with those references, rather than just make them. Further, I really dislike characters going "meta" and commenting on the spoof as they go through the film. That's an insulated form of comedy that doesn't really have any staying power.

I think the problem with Hot Fuzz is that, like Shaun of the Dead, it has stylish quick editing, but it doesn't have a pace that suits it, unlike Shaun of the Dead. Definite pacing problems here and the editing is really out of place on this one. As well, the action scenes aren't well directed, so either Wright got better for Scott Pilgrim or he had help, because those action scenes were stronger. A strong effort, funny, but still a bit of a sophomore slump. Score is not a grade.

Sheer joy. Simon Pegg, Nick Frost, and Edgar Wright take on the cop film, with explosive results--figuratively and literally. The script is bursting with wit and invention, and Wright's endlessly energetic direction brings it to life, along with a pitch-perfect cast: Pegg as the paragon policeman/officer, Frost as his cheerful partner, Jim Broadbent (having a blast) as the fatherly chief, Timothy Dalton (ditto) as a suave supermarket tycoon, etc., etc. A must-see.
