Amateur stuntman Rod Kimble has a problem--his step-father Frank is a jerk. Frank picks on Rod, tosses him around like a ragdoll in their weekly sparring sessions, and definitely doesn't respect him, much less his stunts. But when Frank falls ill, it's up to Rod to stage the jump of his life in order to save his step-father. The plan: jump 15 buses, raise the money for Frank's heart operation and then...kick his ass. I personally can't get enough of this movie. The Lonely Island boys and the rest of the cast do an amazing job of creating unique characters that stick with you for a while. If you like a good laugh and don't mind borderline childish humor every now and then - much like myself - then I'd recommend it.

Andy is likable but you need more than that. You need a perfect replica of Kevin Bacon's angry dance sequence from Footloose. You need to immediately follow that with a three minute fall down a mountain. You need Will Arnett to call Jorma Taccone "princess," and another guy "choad." You need an Asian that can't stop dancing, a bunch of high fives in a row and from out of absolutely nowhere, Ebenezer Scrooge with a Christmas goose. Yeah, this movie has what it needs.

Yeah, I get it, comedy can be subjective, but with the way this film in particular is so endlessly creative and colourful and full of child-like wonder and fun in its quest for the laugh (which maybe could've been put on brief pause in Rod's rock bottoms), I feel particularly called to shield it from from any big ol' meanies who don't like it. You do you, Hot Rod. Keep ringin' those bells, jumpin' those ramps, coolin' those beans, singin' those songs, and kickin' that ass. You're funny AF.

If you take a collection of gags, each one - at best - worthy of being Youtube's clip of the week, and you strung them together haphazardly into a feature length film, you'd end up with Hot Rod. It is far from unwatchable and it certainly has a few hilarious moments, but it's always just a bit *too* irreverent. Everytime you begin to identify with its characters or get absorbed by the plot, the film unintentionally breaks the fourth wall and reminds you that it's just a drawn out SNL skit.

All the hall-marks of a traditional comedy plot line here, in fact, it's almost the definition of a production line film. Samberg's facial contortions don't seem to be able to carry him the whole hour and a half, the script has the same troubles.

A coming of age movie centered around The American Dream, we follow the young and careless drifter Rod, who gets his kicks from performing dare devilish stunts on his moped. But when his masculine role model and stepfather falls ill with a terminal heart condition, Rod must take his final step towards becoming a man. This comedy sleeper still manages to stir up indignation amongst people, regarding the scandal of not making it to the Academy Awards of 2008. AMPAS, hWere do yo get off?

A box office flop that gained a cult following upon DVD release. I want to say this is a bad movie, but I laughed pretty consistently, so as a comedy it served its purpose, yes? There isn't much if any substance at all, and some of the comedy is trying way too hard, but for the most part, this is actually a fairly clean movie with likable characters. I didn't love it, but I feel like it'll get funnier the more I watch it.

Hot Rod is an underrated, random, absurd comedy. The Lonely Island boys (director Akiva Schaffer, and actors Jorma Taccone and Andy Samberg) are gonna be famous eventually, meanwhile, other comedy B-listers like Will Arnett, Chris Parnell, Bill Hader, and Isla Fisher join in the silly fun. I think the film works and some people just need to give it a chance. Still, I can just as easily see any type of audience being divided over this flick.

It is incredibly stupid, but I'll be damned if I don't laugh my ass off during the whole thing. The plot is more to serve as a way to get to more jokes as opposed to an actual good story. It feels like a lot of the SNL movies only it's quite a bit funnier (probably because it doesn't have to what the skits have already done). If you don't like the humor (and it's not for everyone) you are likely to give this movie a rating of 10 or less (out of 100), but if you do you are in for some hilarity.

Why don't more people talk about this movie? I love just how saturated with 80'sness it is. It has the vibe of Napoleon Dynamite, but with the over the top comedic chops of a Ferrell/McKay production. Honestly it hits all of the notes you want from a cheesy, stupid, but genuinely hilarious big budget comedy.

Honestly, this is more of a 3-star film, but it has so many good jokes and bits that raise it slightly. Your enjoyment of this will really depend on how much you enjoy a film going for goofy comedy over everything else. Sissy Spacek is in this, and despite being Samberg's mother, you will watch the credits and go, "oh, Sissy Spacek was in this." This is a testament to how small her usage is, despite appearing to have a decent-sized part.

This comedy about an inept stuntman is so juvenile and obnoxious that it really shouldn't be funny at all, but miraculously it hits all the right notes. Aside Samberg's useless hero, there's a number of great supporting characters (McShane's wonderfully horrible stepfather is the highlight), and the Europe-heavy soundtrack is a delight.

The slapstick gag of Rod falling down the hill in the woods for almost a minute straight had me crying, literally crying with laughter. Every time you see Rod take a fall it's hilarious. Sadly the rest of the film can't keep that level of hilarity but it does still have some other funny gags if you enjoy some absurd and slapstick humor. Hot Rod isn't amazing and some of the jokes simply don't work but thankfully there's far more good than bad to make it an overall good flick.

It misses the mark wide at times, and there are dull stretches. But when it hits, it hits hard. There are moments in this film that are pee-your-pants funny, but that's all it really is -- a collection of moments, and not a cohesive whole. It was a lot funnier than I had thought it would be, and Chris Parnell is especially hilarious (Will Arnett and Danny McBride have their moments as well). Worth a watch if it's on TV, but I probably wouldn't pay to see it.

It's a bare-bones film, not having much depth or humor, instead relying more on its plot and characters to keep the audience's attention. Humor, of course, is something very difficult to peg down, because everyone will find different things funny. I didn't find much in Hot Rod funny, but I know people who thought it was the funniest movie ever. For me, the charactehrs and plot were interesting enough to make me continue to watch the film, and I ended up having a decent enough time.

Samberg went on record after the movie was released that they made the film with the intent of creating an underground comedy classic. Well.......it isn't a classic (not even close), but it has it's moments. The entire cast has some pretty funny moments (namely McShane, the ever consistent Hader, Jorma Taccone singing George Michael, and a "before he was played out" Danny McBride), but overall the movie just tries way too damn hard. The first time it was the only movie I ever walked out of in a theater, now I realize its the kind of movie you watch with friends on a late Friday night.
