Even a dumb movie like this one knows that an inarticulate dweeb is no match for Jennifer Lawrence.

The hidden room in the basement of the house at the end of the street on the edge of the county line but in a different county's voting district because of gerrymandering.

Very disappointing indeed. I don't think that the acting was really at fault for this movie being mediocre. I thought that Lawrence and Shue did a good job. Max Thieriot wasn't a very good bad guy in this was one of the problems. Plus the "twists" they threw into here were almost too little too late and borrowed a little too much from the movie Psycho. Like I said, I had no beef with the two female leads but the writing was just terrible and this movie really dragged badly.

While I did find some parts of the flick to be cliched, and found some of Jennifer Lawrence's performance to be wooden and uninspired, AND became concerned about some late potential horror movie wonkiness ruining what was, up to that point, an enjoyable watch, that ending absolutely positively made up for any concerns I may have had. Just spectacularly done double-swerve. The flick leads you in one direction, then swerves you down a different path, only to swerve you yet again. See it for sure.

A weird time at the start of the 2010's where people had to pretend Jennifer Lawrence was better than an average actress

I am surprised people are saying Lawrence is wooden in this, because she is wooden in everything. When she needs to do "emotion" she can, but 90% of her acting "normal" IS expressionless and wooden. That said, this film is a decent tense drama with a slightly different slant on things, which maintains the interest and tension. It decends into very predictable "slasher cliche" in the last 3rd (just put a slug in his head, you idiot!) but the twists are fun and I was more than satisfied with this

Top badass moment? Discovering than JL's singing voice is so high only babies and dogs can hear it. For the rest of us she just sings an instrumental. Well this film’s all a bit average. It was nice to see a few compact cassettes and Jen was lovely as usual, although she only got one chance to do her ‘woman on the edge of sanity pulling a horrified face' thing. Shame, as it just makes me want to give her a great big cuddle and say everything'll be okay. No cats, chainsaws or decapitations.

There are certainly the requisite dumb plot twists and turns, but House At The End Of The Street is a reasonable success thanks to a standout lead performance and a number of gripping sequences that considerably outshine the vast majority of 2012's mainstream horror (Devil Inside, Pact)

Mostly boring, though there are some hilarious parts since the characters and script are terrible. Follows the same formula of virtually all Hollywood horror films from the last 20 years.

I've definitely seen better, but I've also definitely seen worse. This one is more of a thriller than anything else, and that may surprise some, but it definitely does the job of scaring you to the best of its ability. Nothing ground breaking, and certainly forgettable, but there are much worse flaws by peers in genre.

Pretty bad, but almost redeemed by the concentration and grace of Jennifer Lawrence, and the increasingly vulnerable beauty of a 50 year old Elizabeth Shue. Nice twist at the end.

This movie had a Alfred Hitchcock vibe to it from the very beginning. I did not foresee how this movie ending the way it did, it was wonderfully executed and at the very end the sadness for the killer just hits you. Which is an unlikely emotion to experience after a horror movie. An excellent gut wrenching movie.

The chaotic last half-hour certainly keeps your attention, but up till then it's pretty incomprehensible and kinda generic, wandering down that familiar PG-13 thriller road upon which so many other flicks have trod over the past few years. All but the most steadfast of J-Law buffs would do well to give it a pass.

Good twist, which actually wasn't predictable. yeah Hollywood! Jennifer Lawerence was good considering the work she was given...The movie is a pretty middle of the road leading towards boring film until the twist smacks you in the face. Once you get over the twist though you're back to being bored and questiong the intelligence of anyone involved with this film.

This movie is ridiculous. I'm not sure if the twist improves it or pushes it further into insanity. Or both. Weird seeing Tommy from The Shawshank Redemption as a cop.

Tired old junk, except when Jennifer is in a wifebeater. The filmmakers should be embarrassed about using the same old cliches, tropes and caricatures in fucking 2012.

This is an interesting horror film. Both Jennifer Lawrence and Elisabeth Shue are good in this film. The script has a few moments with some of the characters doing unbelievable things. But these type of decisions are common in many horror films. Overall I would recommend this film.

As terrible as House at the End of the Street is, Jennifer Lawrence still manages to be pretty convincing in it. But, yes, the movie is bad, confusing, and, above all else, boring. The film's villain is left convoluted for much of the film, so we get to see some bad high school drama scenes, and the movie's big twist comes completely out of left field and isn't at all earned by the preceding plot.

This is not as bad as it is made out to be. Decent twist, decent acting, few good thrills, relatively crisp, regular numerous coincidences to advance the story and bad ending. The police character and all the scenes associated with him look particularly flawed. Musing: But then really good mystery thrillers are so rare and hence this gets benefit of my doubt. Side Note: Keeping the caricature same, probably this could be really written into a engaging and good script.

This was pretty uninspired in my eyes. From the beginning, it is seemed pretty obvious the way this was going. I cannot lie however, the ending was a bit shocking. However, given that this was in the bottom third of the movie (about an hour in) it didn't redeem the movie in my eyes. Parts were cliche, the plot sans the last third thrived solely on jump scares rather than tension in the plot, and ultimately I was disappointed.
