The last act is really a mess. Driver becomes a completely different character and no real reasons are offered. Gaga is reduced to a one dimensional part and just drifts through the last act with no focus at all. Salma Hayek is in third film, one where it seems appropriate to have screeching cat noises in the back of every scene she's in.

Sidney Lumet said that the best compliment a director can give to his cast and crew is "We're all making the same movie." Unfortunately, this feels like everybody was making a different movie. Gaga was making a melodrama, Driver was making a character drama, Leto was making a satire, and director Ridley Scott was making a thriller. Nothing wrong with any of the pieces, but they just didn't fit together very well.

I don't think Ridley Scott ever figured out if he was making a straight drama or a satirical camp-fest, and the result is surprisingly blasé. The performances across the board are really strong (Jared Leto in particular is a hoot), but otherwise, the film feels sort of blandly workmanlike. House of Gucci definitely has its enjoyable moments, but on the whole, for a movie about a fashion empire, it's weirdly plain.

this was one of most fun I've had out of a seemingly non-comedy film and couldn't tell the whole screening why people weren't laughing, which means they were probably thinking why I was laughing as hard as I was.

Very solid “true story” drama movie, I didn’t feel its length at all. Good performances from everyone (Adam Driver was a sweetie) except Jared Leto who made the movie worst every time he was on screen. I had absolutely no clue about the Gucci family so the ending caught me by surprise, holy shit she was so fucked up

Praying Ridley never directs a sex scene ever again. Also, the Shrek franchise called, they want their soundtrack back. Everyone just said: “fuck it, how much?”

Almost consistently and uniformly dull, uninspired, and mediocre, as if it's doing it on purpose. It's only when the film gets bad that it becomes good, y'know. A shift into something funnier or campier would've helped a film that only introduces an interesting plot development in the last seven minutes. Probably worse than all those Marvel films Ridley's been complaining about (and it's still far, far better than his other dreadful film of 2021).

This is what you get when you get capital-A actors and let them do their favourite things -- accents, make-up, and gestures. If I had a time machine, the only thing I would do is go back and dissuade Jared Leto from acting. You know this film is set in Italy because everyone is talking about espresso. Scenes just end with no real reason. We also never understand the inner-workings of these characters, they just change because the plot demands it. Again, who let Leto loose? Please stop.

Maybe it's Ridley Scott, but boy was the pacing of this ever all over the place. At first, it operates at light-speed to introduce every minor character that you may need to know; by the end, it's almost glacial. Luckily, the performances are top-notch and more than capable of keeping your attention through the too-long run time. The story is interesting and somewhat entertaining, but it's easy to keep this one at arms-length, as every character is a bad person who you don't have to invest in.

I guess Ridley’s films are especially dependent on how good the screenplay is - he’s made stuff I’ve loved and stuff I hated. This is neither, but maybe closer to the latter. Large stretches, especially in the first half, are so slow and languid, more like studying a sculpture than watching a film. It livens up a little later on, but the performances are all pretty uneven to be honest. Even Adam Driver is generally good, but there’s no, like, standout moment, no Oscar clip.

Entertaining and held my attention despite long runtime. However, I just couldn't deal with the accents. Leto was so terrible it was funny. I've never undstood why he's so famous. Most of the other stars were not good either in that regard. Also, Adam Driver suddenly turned from the guy in the report to Kylo Ren halfway through the movie for no reason.

Takes itself too seriously for a movie where Jared Leto minces about like a consumptive, foul-mouthed Super Mario. But the cast has more than enough oomph to make it an enjoyable ride. Pacino, Irons, Hayek, and Driver are highlights.

Lady Gaga was great! Adam Driver could just stand there looking awkwardly handsome all the time. And the lovely pathetic dynamic of father and son Al Pacino & Jared Leto was filled with humor. House of Gucci (2021) was a really good movie that unfortunately lost its steam when things were about to get heated. They sure could have done a lot more once Gaga went all gaga. But this film is still feels like a iconic beast!

Some standout scenes, and good performances, apart from Leto going too far over the top. I have noticed that in the last couple of movies I have seen him in. But fault goes to the directors of those movies as well. Driver's inexplicable character arc really drags the movie down. I just don't get it. And for such a long runtime, some important developments were glossed over. It's a mixed bag, but there is enough style and meat here for a shaky recommendation.

A movie that in its inauthenticity and bunk Italian-accents is ironically very similar to the black market gucci knockoffs that infuriated the people in the story. Everyone sank me through the couch cringing, but Leto takes the cake with probably the worst acting since Tommy Wiseau in The Room.

Or: when a bunch of supremely talented people are allowed to throw whatever they have at the wall to see what sticks – undisciplined and fatally overlong, but the terrific cast is fun to watch, even if everyone plays as if in their own movie; Gaga leads the charge (albeit with a questionable accent) bringing an undeniable fire and fury to Lady Gucci, and Pacino and Irons effortlessly steal all of their scenes. Scott really leans in to his inner Scorsese here, albeit the “knock-off” variety.

I found it entertaining because the story is so far-out, and the tone is so strange. And it's all famous people in grotesque costumes doing various shades of weird accents and pathetic characters. I stuck around to the end and it didn't feel as long as it actually was, so I guess it was accidentally entertaining to me.

The script is terrible, everyone apart from Jeremy Irons and Adam Driver is bad to varying degrees (how does Leto still have a career between these performances and the pedo accusations?), an interesting story is rendered as more boring than reading about it. The whole high-trash adaptation of an Italian fashion empire murder was done far better with The Assassination of Gianni Versace.

Viewed November 28, 2021. Not quite trash, not quite art. House of Gucci is too grey and leaden with self-seriousness to function purely as a comedy about the petty battles within a rich and powerful family. But all indications — the goofy dialogue, the shapeless gag-heavy structure, and the performances, which among the strangest I’ve seen in a big Hollywood movie — suggest that this is the movie’s primary purpose.

I was curious enough to watch this after it became available on a streaming provider I have access to - I know it doesn't get great reviews. The cast is good, the scenery is lovely, the accents perhaps less so but most of all the story is a bit uninteresting, I thought. It has a typical Hollywood biopic feel to it but there isn't too much in the way of tension and action to keep the viewer gripped.

Leto’s performance is pretty amusing, although I don’t know if that was the intent. Driver’s character arc didn’t make much sense. Surprisingly muted color grading too for a film about a fashion brand. It’s not the Oscar level film I expected when it was announced, so a documentary would probably do the story better justice.

My only thought after watching House of Gucci was, Why? Why focus an entire film on a toxic marriage where the couple's only discerning attribute is their wealth. Scott is a competent director; as evidenced by his cinematic allusions to The Godfather in this film; but he increasingly becoming a less interesting one. Pacino definitely steals the show. Gaga is all over the place. Driver is good, but I'm hoping this is the last time I watch him act out a boring marriage story.

Gaga is better than expected. It’s got a great aesthetic. But the pacing is all over the place and so is Pacino. Jared Leto does a very strange take on an Italian accent. And it doesn’t do a good job of building characters as much as it creates exaggerated caricatures. It’s a mess… D+

Well, if you thought that American actors can't do british accents, you should try them with Italian! Lady Gaga ended up Russian, I think. This film drifts towards it conclusion with all the excitement, passion and energy of an empty rowing boat beaching on a lake shore. With Salma Hayek channelling Edina Monsoon, Jared Leto channelling Andy Pipkin, and Adam Driver channelling a cucumber it moves from love to hate in a matter of moments; there is no sense of time passing because no one ages!

Yeah, it's flawed, but also lots of fun and in a way quite bleak. Patrizia's desire to own a name, a status and a history leads her to the insight that her ideas about the thing were seriously lacking. Funny though how the thing never lets itself be owned by tradition as well. There's lot of contracts getting signed here and while Gucci wanders on, it leaves the people behind, no matter the name. The acting is awesome and starring here is the best thing Jared Leto has ever done.

Not nearly as campy or over the top I was led to believe. I was expecting The Real Housewives level of drama as claimed by some reviewers but HoG was nothing of the sort. Two of the most crucial things I'd have developed was expanding the reasoning for Driver's jarring character shift in the last third. And drop the "Italian" accent (which Irons didn't seem to even bother with). It did nothing to immerse me into the setting but moved me further away from it.

Everyone's performances are beyond phenomenal, and I have to give serious props to the costume/makeup department; the task of representing Gucci on film must have been daunting. That being said, the movie is way too long, and the pacing is so slow that it often detracts from the drama. There's no real strong focal point in the story, and the editing and plot don't really deliver any strong emotional beats. Luckily, though, the cast was supreme and carried this movie.

Not a story as much as a series of long unconnected scenes, none of which entertains. Driver is given too little to do, Gaga is given far too much (she can't carry a 2½ hour film on her own), and Leto is from another film or planet. Even if it were an hour shorter it would still drag, there's nothing to see. Possibly Ridley Scott's worst film?

Ridley Scott is usually not at his best with dramas, and this is no exception. It felt too long and I thought that they highlighted the wrong things; the fates of Aldo and Paolo are barely summed up with captions while they spend a lot of time elsewhere. As usual with these kinds of stories, the rise is much more enjoyable than the fall. Acting was also mixed: Driver is low-key while Gaga and especially Leto are over the top. It’s not a bad film, but there was a better one in the material.

What a long film, jesus. Jared Leto was the highlight of the film to me, he made it funny because of how incredibly awful he was. Can we also talk about how Adam Driver's character had a complete change of heart for no reason at all and became a totally different person with no prior development that would've led to that? Oh, and Gaga's performance was literally not good lmao.
