A lot of later Shaw Brothers films were "throw it was the wall and see what sticks" affairs and this was no different. This had a bland story, ridiculous costumes, an Interesting idea, and title, but ultimately a letdown. I'm not really a big fan of the "Venom" films so that wasn't a draw for me. It is interesting to note that supposedly there are around 20 minutes of the movie missing, not sure if those scenes would've helped the movie or not. The ending itself...

Too much plotting, too many characters, too little fighting to make this memorable. The titular house disappoints immensely.

THE film that created every trap, torture, and escape film that followed, and a documented source for many films, including SAW and the Cube trilogy. \ There are 4 released films that follow this one, and one bootleg (Revenge in the House Of Traps).

Doesn't deliver well on the premise of the title. It's only 2 stories high and is solved in under 20 minutes by the heroes. It's hardly even in the movie. If most of the movie took place inside the house, and it was much larger, it would be satisfying. But Cube or Saw 2 this is not. But special points go for Lu Feng's fabulously dressed and named character, Butterfly, as well as the 5 rat brothers, each a different element rat. And a very funny final line by Philip Kwok at the end addtothe good.

The yappin'/trappin' ratio seemed a bit off.
