Oh yeah, off-brand Steve Martin! To say I had zero expectations going in would be a charitable characterization. But...my now 8-months pregnant wife wants a "nice" movie from Netflix? Well this sure looks "nice", I think. And it was! It was nice! And you know what? Fuck it...I liked it. I laughed at least 3 or 4 times. I've never, ever, heard anyone ever speak about this movie in real life, though. Gotta think it was about 5 years too late. Screams 1987 to me in the best possible way.

Why do I remember seeing this in the theater and thinking it was funny? Why did I see this in the theater? So many questions I can't answer. I found myself sticking around just hoping Steve Martin would eventually pummel Goldie Hawn to death and bury her out in the garden. Spoiler Alert: that didn't happen.

Steve Martin's deroute

It's a typical stupid comedy fair, except with jokes that either aren't funny or that you've seen done better previously. Steve Martin isn't funny here, the rest of the main cast is just about on the same level of mediocrity as you'd expect and the plotline really isn't much good at all. For a film that relies on cheap humour, surprisingly little is actually pulled off leaving the film feeling dull, boring and very empty in places. Most of the characters are annoying as well. I'd give it a miss.

Thirteen years later, I only remember one scene from this movie, which is probably more scenes than I remember from most movies I watched in 1993.

Unusual hybrid of comedy, farce, and screwball romance that doesn't know what it's trying to be. Laughs throughout, and the stars do their best, but the film is painfully Hollywood-cookie-cutter in form.

DVD-worthy

Funny although expected ending, it did have a superb line up of BS.
