How to Kill Your Neighbor's Dog
Shy, chain-smoking, insomniac Peter McGowan is an L.A. playwright with a string of hits that preceded his current ten years of failed productions. His mother-in-law is sinking into senility, a stranger is meandering the neighborhood claiming to be him, neighbors have a new dog that barks all night; his wife wants to have a child, and he does not: he's become impotent. He's working on a new play when a single mom moves in next door with her 8-year-old daughter... (imdb)

Top badass moment? Easy. Kenneth Branagh having his prostate examined. Things don't get more badass than that. On a less pleasing note, my copy of the DVD has a dog on the sleeve (a Labrador) that doesn't really bear much resemblance to the dog in the movie. What a swizz. No cats, chainsaws or decapitations.

Funnier than I'd expected with an emotional ending.

Very good script and good performances from Branagh and Wright Penn. A quirky little movie that has some worthwhile observations on men, women, relationships, parenting, and writers, even if it does so within a deliberately awkward and uncomfortable setting. Quite a few funny lines; the scene where Branagh is being interviewed on breakfast TV is a must-see.

I wanted to like this so much more... Kenneth Branagh plays a twinkly curmudgeon (Robin Williams must have been busy)--gag. I like my curmudgeons to be real ones, thank you very much. Nausea factor is due to the script, of course. Only really good scene: the second morning show interview.

How disarming is this well written Indie? Even the dancing spastic child is likeable, that's how much!
