Hollywood executives and their pals get existential about their excess. Pretty enjoyable. I watched it because Garry Shandling is in it. What it really could use is more Garry Shandling. It was a back tooth, Hank.

Talky drama is basically an acting exercise with all the major participants doing fine work in unlikeable roles.It is most effective as a dark satire on navel gazing excess and misogyny, but the turn to complete seriousness in the 3rd act was a bad move, especially given that it's well worn territory and runs out of ideas; Penn's existential angst only goes so far. Thankfully he is aided by a fine supporting cast with Pacquin as the clear standout as a young drifter who is wise beyond her years.

an impressive movie, with so many great actors. it's the events really that carry this movie more than anything else, but that's not to say that the other aspects are bad, not at all.

Absolutely hated it.

Strikes me as a very Zen movie: for all Eddie's struggles, he'd be fine if he would acknowledge the truths in front of him and stop trying to out-think life itself or argue his way out of pain. The futility of man's attempt to understand and direct things is underlined by all the literally meaningless dialogue: "bla bla bla." And the only characters who seem at all well off are the ones who refuse to lie to themselves, like Artie and Bonnie. Endlessly fascinating.

yeah!!?!

I kinda liked this movie, aside form being a showcase for acting talent, there were some well shot scenes, & i get to feel uplifted because i'm not a coke sniffing head case with mouth diarrhea. Why anyone would want to spend time with these people is pretty much beyond me, although they do have somewhat amusing & colorful lives in a pathetic way.

Passes the time.
