Hurricane Bianca

A so wasted plot and character.

I love RuPaul's Drag Race. I love the girls who were in this movie from that show. This movie did not appeal to me and I really wanted to enjoy it. I love Bianca Del Rio. She was one of my favorite contestants and she was insanely funny on the show. Roy Haylock, who plays Bianca, has machine gun timing and accuracy with his humor but when shoved into a Hollywood style comedy movie it just falls flat. Wilem was terrible. Shangela was okay. Dratch was the best part of the movie followed by Cho.

Inane comedy does at least have its heart in the right place, but the direction, writing and performances are as subtle as a sledgehammer; blatant stealing of story elements from TOOTSIE detract, and Bianca/Richard her/himself is a pretty one-note, abrasive character, surrounded by performers who fail to make an impact in any way.

Kind of plays like an modernized version of Wong Foo, except with less heart and soul and more cheesiness. Still, Bianca Del Rio is a really entertaining character and is able to carry the film moderately well.

This one is filled with more punch than the sequel with the script really adhering to Bianca's insult queen roots, letting her take aim at all characters she comes across. Dratch is perfectly insufferable & each other character arrives at a well rounded arch.
