I can't believe I didn't hear about this! Sorry. It's been a long day. The negative reviews here won't make me hush up about this. Like Flanagan's Oculus this is better than it should be. And that's the truth aural eat my hat. I mean or I'll eat my hat. Very long day indeed.

It's not the cliched premise that offends me, although this is truly an insultingly generic piece of shit. Rather, it is the complete lack of any tension. You can telegraph how this is going to progress from the moment you hit play. The helplessly stupid characters and lifeless expository dialogue only make this worse.

Subverts most home invasion genre tropes by making the lead character disabled and the killer very hatable from the get-go. He just wants to mess with her before making the kill, which is very sinister and different than usual. Flanagan and Siegel play some pretty good tricks on the viewer here. One of them legitimately got me! It's not a perfect film, but it's very investing and a lot better than it has any right to be. Very chilling and definitely best viewed with the lights off.

Pretty effective confined home invasion film that plays with a bunch of effective tricks to really use this deaf-mute writer and the very possibilities involving noises and movements. Such a dry, minimalist horror, with almost no info about the characters' motives and past. I like how this is strongly staged from the very beginning -- we see the invader, his face and the fact that she was just trying to develop an ending to her new book before being attacked. Nice Blumhouse entry.

Lucky guy to pick the one american living in a secluded forest home with no guns whatsoever. Better still, she even manages to match his..."wits". The scene that had the boyfriend chat up the antagonist was so surreal, i'm not convinced if this wasn't deliberate trash. What a load of shoddy writing, just because someone wanted to push the "he's behind you but you don't notice, OMG!!!"-theme to the extreme. Did you notice they couldn't even afford to break a window?

I normally hate slashers and serial killer focused things, but this was incredibly done. As a result of the deaf protag, the relationship with sound in the film was really interesting and you were constantly aware of sounds or the lack of them; everyone in the movie was also really competent, and it was actually pretty riveting. I feel the device with the different endings could have been milked more, and made to feel more significant, but even as is it added a lot of catharsis.

Listen. Do you hear that? That's the sound of a deaf writer unable to heed the call of reason and retreat into the endless forest that surrounds her house rather than chill in said house while a masked surfer dude with a crossbow fucks with her because reasons (albeit, she probably cannot hear that call on account of being deaf and all).

Not all home invasion films are created equal, and this one falls somewhere in the middle of good and bad. Some of the decisions by both the protagonist and the antagonist were head-scratchers, but there's enough here to pass the time. You've seen this film before, but a highlight of the film has our main hero envisioning different scenarios of her attempts to escape and the resulting consequences.

I’ve known about this for awhile
I think I might’ve even half heartedly watched part of it and decided it wasn’t for me But I decided to try again and give it a fair shot
It’s good creepy atmospheric
Kept up a pretty good pace
But for me there were just a few to many unanswered questions  (
Mostly why he decided to target this death mute girl)
Anyway nice movie if you don’t mind a few plot holes
An enjoyable way to kill some time

Yeah, it's essentially a "Wait Until Dark" remake, but there are worse movies to be inspired by. Much like "Oculus" it plays around with perspective to good effect, though not as much as it might have, and essentially stays in real time so we never get bored. Gets the job done, unlike some of the characters in the movie (though it's good to know that serial killers can be just as klutzy as the rest of us).

A well-composed piece of work. It hits some of the lame tropes of the horror/thriller genre, but it's able to overcome most of them with some unique approaches. Go in deaf--er, I mean blind. Go in BLIND.

There were some genuinely strong suspense scenes & some smart moments. However, with every one of those, there was another dumb, contrived moment. I think the screenplay could've used a little more work. The direction, too. And like a cliché horror movie, the main character kept making dumb decisions. It was a frustrating experience overall. But I still quite enjoyed it. If you can turn your brain off a little, and not think to logically about the whole thing, I think you'll enjoy it.

Ads some fresh elements to your basic home invasion movie. Like similar films both characters make stupid decisions, otherwise you'd have a 5 minute movie. The most surprising was to see a horror/thriller where the main characters actually experience excruciating pain when wounded instead of just carrying on like nothing happened, I don't think I have ever seen that before.

I am not a huge fan of the home invasion subgenre (is it a subgenre? Don't argue with me), so my score reflects that. Basically, this is a home invasion film, but the protagonist is deaf mute. Does that interest you? The villain is actually human, which is a welcomed surprise, but again, this just didn't float my boat (or blow my bubble or eat my curry).

Makes adequate use of its chosen disability to generate anxiety, but the villain seems less convincing after he takes off his mask, and, for a film that thematises the difficulty involved in choosing good endings, this one seems highly generic. Perhaps its greatest virtue is brevity.

Hush is....it's interesting. Definitely one of the more interesting and original concepts, and you give props to Flanagan for not diverting this into a generic horror/thriller like you see with a lot of those types of films. It's contained and simple but creates very solid tension and predictably so with its kind of budget. It's a great example of a film that doesn't need a 20 million dollar price tag attached to it for it to be worth your time.

Tight, tense, intelligent, minimal and very well shot. Both characters are interesting, and their actions are those of real thinking humans. The deaf element adds an intriguing spin on the home invasion premise, and the film makes great use of it. The script is lean, with nary a superfluous backstory in sight. The deaths are grisly and unflinching, further lending to this film's naturalistic tone. This is one of the best - if not THE best - home invasion movies out there.

It is a simple story, located in a confined setting but mostly manages to keep its pace and maintain interest. This is largely due to the better than average performance by the leading actress. Modern twist on WAIT UNTIL DARK is far more gripping and intriguing in its first half, which almost plays as a silent movie; once Gallagher starts speaking, his mystique rapidly evaporates; some very silly behavioural plot points (how long until he learns he can break the glass?) also drag things down. Worth watching for Siegel's involving performance as a very relatable heroine.

While not able to match the success of the other break-in/horror Don't Breathe, Hush is still a very worthwhile film. It sports good scares, and uses its small cast and location to its advantage. Creating a tense, claustrophobic environment, Flanagan puts himself in a new crowd of quality horror directors. I look forward to seeing more.

Quiet now, don't make a peep. This was an odd horror film. The main character is a deaf and mute woman who lives alone in a cabin. A random killer shows up to make her life a living hell. I like the concept of this movie quite a bit. There is nothing scarier than being hunted, but also having sensory deprivation on top of that makes it even more disconcerting. I do think that this movie could have explained a few things better though, that was its main flaw...

'Well, there must be something interesting about this movie' said I judging by reasonably high PSI and very basic 'invasion flick cliche'-plot summary of it on criticker before downloading pirate copy of it on torrent site. It's one of those solid genre movies that manages to achieve success with no-bullshit, raw approach. Nothing original, but actually unsettling home invasion tough-girl stuff.

It's a shame this will probably only ever be available on Netflix, but that's another discussion for another forum. A sleek, stylish & extremely clever horror story that flourishes in its simplicity, the pace is quick & the suspense is unending. Strong performances by all involved, particularly the neither deaf nor mute Siegel, combine with the smart script to make for a very worthwhile watch. If you haven't seen this yet, do yourself a favor & fix that. One of Flanagan's best outings.

Not the most taught thriller out there, but certainly a good one. There are a few too many moments that take away from the suspense like the man talking too much and the overly convenient set-up of the isolated house. However, the character of Maddie managed to really keep me invested and the way the cat and mouse game plays out makes for very compelling storytelling. That and some genuinely horrific violent moments help Hush feel worth the watch.

Billed as a thriller, clearly a horror, and every bit as bad as I expected it to be before pressing play. Originality is not a concept that was ever considered at any point in this production, but it's still amazing to see how poorly utilised the main angle (her being totally deaf) is. Seen any home invasion/slasher films from the last 40 years? You've seen this.
