I Am Ali

I'm not really a boxing fan, but I generally find documentaries about boxers to be some of the best. Unfortunately, this isn't really one of them. I can't put my finger on why, but it just didn't really engage me like others have. I'd recommend The Greatest or When We Were Kings for better docs about Ali.

The director was incredibly confused

Not great, but I'm a big boxing fan so it's passable. Probably best just to see "When We Were Kings" again. That one is fantastic.

Argues in all but explicit metaphysical terms that Ali was some kind of archetype-transcending extrahuman being, trickster and prophet and warrior-poet in one, and does so not unpersuasively, but if any piece of hagiography could use a sharper eye on the moneylenders...
