The Twilight comparisons are apt (especially the first half of the movie), although there's a lot more action, with a third act blowout of giant monsters and telekinesis and alien ray guns that puts anything in Twilight to shame. There's no character as iconically and hilariously awful as Edward Cullen, though. Alex Pettyfer makes Channing Tatum look like Daniel Day-Lewis.

So it's 'Twilight' but instead of vampires, you get aliens with palms like the iron man suit. The title is in perfect thread with how generic the story is: Heartthrob do-goody alien on the run meets model material girlfriend who's "different" than the others, because she likes photography. Romance is heating up when - oh no! - the film is invaded by the bad guys from J. J. Abrahms Star Trek movie and their bat-lizards. Soulless pathetically politically correct sugar sweet romantic crap.

Caruso makes it a trio of absolute stinkers with "I Am Number Four" adding to the horrible "Disturbia" & "Eagle Eye". Caruso has the annoying habit of casting the blandest teen trend-setters who are just so boring to watch. The sci-fi elements are boiled down to the absolute basics, as Caruso instead focuses on that supremely interesting American phenomenon of the High School clique! The whole 109 minutes are amazingly stupid. Caruso is essentially Michael Bay for the 'Twilight generation'!

With powerful flashlights comes great responsibility. Superman meets high school romance. Clichés, you say? Most genre films have those; recognition of archetypes and plot points is part of what makes them enjoyable. So nevermind the familiarity when most of it works fine here: the mentor, the chosen one, the nerdy sidekick etc. It might not exactly be Oscar material but the only element preventing it from being good is the bad guys which are ... eyerollingly bad. Oh well.. go find Number Five.

Twilight with Aliens, more or less. The plot and characterizations are piss-poor, the protagonist is bafflingly clueless for his age. The are constant plot diversions where our heroes seem to forget whats at stake. The villains (both alien and terrestrial) are all too stupid to pose any kind of real threat, and rely on the heroes' obvious lapses in judgment to take any advantage. On top of all this, the film takes far too long to kick our protagonist into gear. Bad effort all around.

The awfulness in many scenes reaches LOL-hilariousness, and the villains are the funniest characters I've seen in a long, long time. Mogadorians! Even saying the name makes me happy. Watch out, here come the Mogadorians! And then during the credits, we see that this terrible, terrible story was based on a book by someone named "Pittacus Lore". Pittacus Lore!!! Ah-hahahahahaa!!! Kill me.

Pretty much takes the Star Wars mould and tries to recast it into modern day. We have a young hero with super-human powers he doesn't fully understand, caught in a war bigger than he is and older mentor who will die to protect him. I Am Number Four is, simply put, a "made for teenage girls" film, much like Twilight, but unlike other teen films such as 10 Things I Hate About You it has nothing to appeal to anyone outside the target demographic. You can easily miss this.

You brought a gun? To action film? What could that possibly be good for? And that's not nearly the worst of the dialogue; cheesy cliches and tie-in lines, which are so out of the blue that they're red (think about it). And let's not forget the whole "I'm a superhero but I need to go to public school where they teach...umm well I'm not sure anymore..but I must go."

Obviously it got some downsides. I mean, I should have focused on having a more conclusive story, than hoping to be the first in a franchise, and they take a bit lightly on explaining the film's universe (being about aliens and all), but at least they try to. Though, if you are fond of the supernatural genre and got nothing against teen movies, this is actually fairly watchable; effects, actions and character relations work well.

There's some wonk in this movie... actually probably more than I initially thought, but you know what? Despite all that, it's still a fun romp, though I'll never watch it again, nor do I want to. The movie does have some funny parts, and I did care about them... and when it finally got to the big action part, it was kickass. Though I do have some difficulty accepting some of the movie logic concerning the Numbers, and I don't know why the bad guys rely on guns... I like it.

I didn't love it or hate it. It just is out there. Based off of a book series. I Am Number Four is about 9 children who escape their planet from these aliens that are hunting them. They all hide on earth and now the aliens are seeking the final few children to wipe them out. This was a weird movie for Tim Olyphant. He seemed a little out of place in this. I was glad to see Dianna Agron in this. I hope to see her in more films. A few good fight sequences but a bland story all in all.

Twilight, The X-Files, and X-Men all met up and churned out this odd little sci-fi thriller for teens. Given little background to the characters and the plot, audiences are pulled into a bizzarro story about a teenage alien on the run from enemies of another world. But the boy wants to be a teenager and meet girls and go to school until he has to battle some baddies with superpowers. I liked this movie for what it was---a brisk time-waster that deserves to be more popular than The Twilight Saga.

Ok .. so I'm a sci-fi fan, which helps for this film, but I've seen a lot worse. The plot is rather one dimensional and simplistic which means the movie doesn't know whether its a shoot em up, chase or teenage love story. Having said that if you like Warlock, Highlander or Twighlight you'll probably tolerate this. An easy watch albeit light and frothy.

I must really be all about the Sci-Fi. I am so willing to forgive Sci-Fi movies and give them higher rankings than expected - in this case, much higher (expected to be a 33). It's a good way to start off what I expect will be a franchise, it introduced what it had to introduce without spilling too many beans. And yea, there was some wonky stuff, but there was also some comedic brilliance. The Mog's were hilarious in some places, kind of a contrast to their beastly nature. Definitely a watcher!

Ugh, there was way too much bad teen melodrama to wade through to get to what I considered a real stunning finish. That's the most basic review I can come up with. It's all stale acting, a muddy plot, and cliched writing that leads up to what thought was a really fun action-filled climax.

It's an interesting concept, but it fails in several large areas. I actually really enjoyed the scenes with Timothy Olyphant, but unfortunately, he's not the star of the movie, and the rest of the film seems really... bland. I loved this movie, but it ends with a cliffhanger. Technically, this was a book series, book 1. The Power of Six should have been the next movie. Despite that, I loved this movie. Some parts were sappy, but in general, I loved the thrill and action scenes. There's even a bit of rivalry and love triangle to keep the plot going. Recommend, but there is a cliffhanger "to be continued" type ending

At least it followed the plot of the book. I Am Number Four is another crappy adaptation of a young adult novel that I actually liked. The concept is interesting, the acting less so, and the production values even less so. I wished this book had worked as a movie, as the rest of the series could have been interesting. Instead, this is yet another example of a studio trying to make money instead of making a good film.

I'm not sure what the huge negative reaction to this film is about. I found it to be brisk, naive and enjoyable teenage sci-fi storytelling, if also often cliched and cornball. Pettyfer and Agron are both charming actors, although I think Agron is miscast. The action sequences were edited effectively, particularly the final battle scene and there's even some ironic humor. Maybe it's because I grew up in the 80s that this movie seems comforting to me. Lighten up.

A high school soap opera that morphs into an action film for the last thirty minutes. Obviously, as a whole, its going to be a mediocre film, but the action set piece at the end was genuinely good albeit hollow and divorced tonally from the rest of the movie. Meanwhile, the teenage romance cliches made the rest of the movie a tad of a chore and serve no real purpose but to kill time, rather than properly amping up the tension that leads to the finale.

It is not bad per se, it is entertaining, but there is some big logic and plot fail. Nonetheless, the last 30 minutes are funny to watch with the big alien ray guns and chimeras jumping around. If they manage to get a more coherent and believable rationale for the sequel, it can become quite an interesting franchise. I just hope they get rid of the silly Twilight influence. And next time time let the protagonist CARE ABOUT THE FUCKING DOG.

Much better as a film than I had originally anticipated. Alex Pettyfer proves to be an amicable lead, and Dianna Agron provides a softer approach to the lead female role that works. It's been labelled the Twilight for boys, and you can easily see the similarities between the two, with one major glaring difference. That being, I am Number Four has a good story and a lead actress capable of showing emotions. She makes you like her character and her. An entertaining film to say the least.

Based on a book series, this adventure is an interesting and well produced mix of action, romance and science fiction. Even bringing together all elements of teen plots (presence / absence of fathers, college, friends, bullies, loneliness, first love) the script can be creative and avoid the obvious. The characters are believable and the end - an awesome and long fight sequence - appear to have come from one of those good anime, with apocalyptic punches, monsters, ray guns and explosions.

It's sad when the trailer has more back story than the actual movie. The action scenes at the end were awesome, but there was a lot of meandering through the beginning to get you there. Since the movie explains so little, it begs for a sequel, but I'm afraid that it might not have given enough substance in the first to drum up any demand for a second.
