There have been a number of dark fantasy movies with kids as the main character where the fantasy elements are dubious, or eventually refuted. It's such a niche kind of idea that you really only need to see one or two before they feel uninspired. If the creative side of this one isn't up to snuff, then a main character whose quirks are only surpassed by her dickish personality won't suffice either.

I have nothing but love for this little movie about a young girl apparently having a temporary psychotic break. A very sweet story and surprisingly affecting. The story is presented in a light manner but the serious undercurrents are very meaningful. I highly recommend this movie. It is very well written, and well acted. Enjoyable and exciting even though the true gravity of the subject is at times a bit heartbreaking. Everything fit well except for the closing last few minutes.

SPOILERS: It's a little difficult to rate this given what it builds to: a profoundly moving metaphor about life and loss that I think any child of a certain age who may/has experienced the death of a loved one would benefit from. Unfortunately it takes at least an hour to reach. To say that hour is languidly paced is an understatement. Even adults are likely to find it unbearable. It consists entirely of a dull "what's real/what isn't" storyline followed by a get-on-with-it wait for the reveal.

Thoroughly enjoyed this movie and not at all what I expected. The hat comes off for madison Wolfe performance.

Like a mashup of Tideland and Where The Wild Things Are. There are parts of I Kill Giants that feel a little on the nose, but damnit, there's something in my eye at the end and the image of a 12-year-old girl with a huge hammer facing down death itself couldn't be timelier.

I dont know anything about graphic novel so ı cant judge how finely adaptated from original source material. So thats why ı take it as a movie. And its a mess. Its dishonest about itself, its absurdly post-modernist and its just ends like "shit happens" .. Terrible usage of allegories, So obviously and overdosing. Not beleivable, lovable or understandable at all. color grading is abusive to force you in a melancholic mode. The true word about this movie its dishonesty. Fantasy or Psychology

Nice little low-budget fantasy movie that doesn't look cheap. Credit to Walters who realizes what he can and cannot do and only shows things when he has to. Madison Wolfe, who played Barbara, does a really good job here. For the most part it's written well and while the allegory is pretty easy to connect, I was okay with it. It did it well, until the end where it got a little hokey and blunt, losing some of the subtleness. But the emotional highs still hit and I really liked this.

Old wine in new bottles, but this is not a bad thing. The design of the giants and the whole mythology is so meticulous planned and thoroughly implemented. It's fascinating to see how deep inside her own head Barbara is and heartbreaking when she does one little normal everyday thing and the whole universe almost comes crashing down. Good acting all around, but I'm getting tired of the same old bullies in every school movie.

I could've give it a 100 points but some little faults made me irritated. Especially; the wrong advertisement, cover and name of the movie, misleading as hell. But I have to give Madison Wolfe a credit; she was so good. Ps: Why did the character Taylor looked like Taylor Swift in SNL? You hate her that much?

The last half an hour of the movie made me cry. Double thumbs up.

While there is lacking a certain profundity of connection between its worlds, the cinematography, performance, and direction draw one over the gaps of its script and dwell patiently and emotively in many aching moments of beauty. What it lacks prevents it from achieving greatness, but what it possesses makes the journey worth taking anyway.

No giants were hurt in the making of this film, but my head did while watching it.

I Kill Giants is a decent film with good performances from Wolfe and Wade. Unfortunately the allegorical giant-slaying doesn’t parallel the main character's struggle in a satisfying way. While the trauma is obviously related to her parents, the film tries to build it up as a great reveal, which didn’t quite work. Lots of interesting ideas and well executed character moments, but ultimately a film held back by its own narrative flaws.

It's a pretty well-made and well-acted dramatic tale about a troubled child going crazy to escape her depressing life, but I admit that I kind of clicked play on this when I saw it on Hulu hoping for, like, an actual fantasy movie and not some kind of Where the Wild Things Are-esque metaphor thing, so that left me a bit nonplussed.

The school scenes are very dumb. That girl would have been put away. She wouldn't have been it a normal school. No school just lets a kid run out of it. A monster calls is a way better movie then this.

Briefly thought it might be an interesting comment on schizophrenia or the human psyche but turned out to be clichéd schmultz.
