While alone on a cruise, upstanding, teetotal - and mean - Larry Wilson receives a blow on the head, causing him to revert to his old, forgotten, persona of man-about-town and swindler George Carey. Deciding to get what he can out of his position as Wilson he returns to his hometown to continue the pretence. The only trouble is he takes a serious shine to his wife Kay, and doesn't at all agree that Larry should be letting her go. (imdb)

powell and loy take on better characters than their thin man counterparts, the plot is a little more aptly made. if only they combined the good parts of this movie with the chemistry and cleverness of the thin man movies we would have a real winner.

Stick with The Thin Man series for the pairing of Powell and Loy. This one did have some good moments and lines though.

Not sure what to make of this, has it's moments definitely and is watchable to the very end, the two main leads carrying the movie. But there are spots where the entertainment drags (& not simply due to the movie's age - the boy scout bit is overlong & overdone in relation to the humour generated), most unusual for shows with this normally high class pairing. You do need to go with the (now?) overused amnesia device to maximise your enjoyment. Frank McHugh as 'Doc' Ryan more than holds his own.

Enjoyable but repetitive and a bit disorganized, jumping around from plot to plot.

I appreciate the way they are self-consciously trying to play off of Powell's Nick from the Thin Man series, but the film regularly feels like it either isn't as funny as it should be or as heartfelt as it should be. In other words, the central relationship (esp. Myrna Loy) is often sidelined, and the situations are way more expository than just funny. This might be a failure of the overly-complicated narrative device. Fun, but no Thin Man.

Can't go wrong with a William Powell & Myrna Loy outing. I Love You Again (1940) is not exactly of Thin Man quality, but I warmed up for Powell's goofy persona in this movie. Not quite sure about the story. There they could worked out a better scenario, but energetic performances make this a crazy conman story come alive. That and Myrna Loy of course.
