I Love You, Beth Cooper

One of the most mind-blowingly uncomfortable experiences I've had in a movie theater all decade. Look, I like single-night comedies about high school nerds trying to get laid as much as the next guy, but this ain't the poor man's Superbad - this is the fetal alcohol syndrome Superbad. Once in a blue moon is there such a perfect storm of horrifically lifeless writing, acting, and directing. This is anti-comedy.

Premise might lead you to believe that this could be a decent dramacomedy but it's not. All of the characters are complete retards and annoying as hell. None of their actions make any sense but I guess that just suits the imbecile characters.

Must have been made by robots.

Not so good

Very typical, in the string of extremely awkward experiences. There are so many long pauses, it just hurts. The entire story could have been told in mabye 30 min, the rest of it is just random filler 'adventures'.

Not much going for this movie at all and the creators of this movie could not have picked a worse actor to play the nerd i would guess he isn't going to be a huge movie star.

Put it this way. I laughed more at how some people phrased their hate for this film. It is so uncomfortably unfunny you have to wonder why it wasn't just shut down. You will hate every character in this movie.

Not really all that sure who would enjoy the humor in this movie that is most certainly supposed to be a comedy, and yet fails to actually be funny. I think they were hoping the star power of Hayden Panettiere was going to sell tickets. Maybe if she actually showed her, from all appearances, sub par tits, we'd have a reason to remember this movie a decade from now. EDIT: It's been a decade. I don't remember this movie.

I don't even think the high school nerds I went to school with would go about girls in the same way this movie did. I would even consider myself a nerd to some degree. The writing is a absolutely awful, but I don't feel Rust or Pantettiere have a whole lot of talent in the first place so this movie honestly doesn't really add up at all to me. They're certainly worse movies, but I definitely felt I wasted a lot of time on something so meaningless and obnoxious.

Can't Buy Me Love without the laughs. I thought it was headed for something different, but I was wrong.

I don't mind brainless, witty teen comedies, but this one kind of takes the brainlessness to the next level.

Perhaps one of the more awkward movies I have ever seen. I cringed so hard.

Hayden Panettiere's got better acting skills than you can see here.

Caught this on TV and had several good laughs. I was shocked when I went online afterwards and saw how harshly it had been panned by most.

This should have been good, but it just isn't.

This film was over the top at every possible moment and boring in between; there was never a moment that worked properly. Oh and his speech: if he wanted to mention an "eating disorder" they should have found an actor that actually looked too skinny the girl they used was perfectly healthy looking...what was up with that???

"I Love You Beth Cooper" is the type of movie you rent on a Saturday (for a redbox buck) to watch late at night. It's not to be taken seriously, but if you couldn't figure that out by the previews, I guess you deserve to be disappointed. This is pure B-Flick trash boasting a script full of nonsense, where teens just getting out of high school have one hell of a wild night. You seen all this before. Well-suited to its production--half the "teenagers" look like they're in their late twenties

A silly mid-2000's comedy that's definitely a product of its decade, it's saved from mediocrity by a solid cast- particularly Panettiere- and some heartfelt moments that, for the most part, don't ring hollow. The plot is pretty standard, the supporting characters are all pretty thin, & there's not much new to see- but, there's something about watching Beth & Denis's unlikely friendship build that makes up for the weaker moments. It isn't perfect & it isn't great, but it's fun for what it is.

I LOVE YOU, BETH COOPER purposefully sets up a hackneyed conceit about a nerdy boy with a crush on the popular girl, only to discover a significant gap between his fantasy and her reality. Yet the film is hardly as subversive as it intends to be, undermining any thoughtfulness with crass cliches and populating its world with characters that just seem dumb, or mean, or both.
