Signals the emergence of a great thing: Paul Rudd, leading man. It's funny without ever forcing the issue, raunchy and profane without being juvenile, and occasionally touching without being manipulative. It's as lightweight as movies come, but exactly the kind of effortlessly entertaining comedy we need more of.

People have said I Love You, Man was predictable. But that's because we've seen way too many formulaic romantic comedies. What I Love You, Man does is to apply the same formula to a "bromance." The climax shows it best where the typical "taking him back" scene puts a halt on the wedding for Paul Rudd and Jason Segal to express their man-love for each other. Yes, it's predictable because we all know the formula - it's how it uses that formula that sets it apart and makes it a refreshing take.

Hilarious. I laughed a solid 20-30 times throughout. I love Paul Rudd and the supporting cast but Jason Segel really makes it great. I don't know what that guy has but everything he's in just becomes better just by the fact that he's in it.

A movie that I had high hopes for. I loved the cast, but it fell short of what I hoped for. My date liked it more and embarassed me with her non-stop laughter. Segal & Rudd were solid, but the smaller roles seemed to be where the movie's best comedy was hidden. Sarah Burns (who I had never heard of before this) was hysterical at the dinner and on the car speaker phone at the start of the movie.

Segel and Rudd put interesting spins on characters that could've easily been stock (or worse) annoying. Segel, in particular: how do you even classify this guy? As he did in Freaks and Geeks, he brings just enough creepy sincerity to make you wonder what his real motivations are. Rudd, as always, is hysterical and hits comic notes that could not have possibly been in the script. An over reliance on "shock" humor brings things down a bit (and isn't needed), but otherwise? Funny stuff.

I Love You, Man is a success on most levels. Though it is certainly reminiscent of older comedies of the Apatow school, it is better and at the same time worse than most of its peers in certain ways. Where the film hits it best is with the friendship, but it comes a bit late and it seems a little too thin when the movie ends. It has funny moments but not in the same way movies of the past did. Overall, I highly recommend it but really only to fans of this style.

An alternative take on the classic romantic comedy, I love you man is more of 'bromance' but still follows the familiar formulaic plot which anyone can predict. The plot couldn't be any thinner but the comic charms of Paul Rudd and Jason Segel carry the film to a higher level as they bring a mix of boyish enthusiasm and raunchy attitude to the show.

Probably ranked a little high, but I am sorry, this movie cracked me up. 10 years ago this role would have gone to Ben Stiller and he would have hammed it up. Rudd plays it with a lot more honesty and realism. Segel is great here too.

I admired the intriguing concept of this movie, one that (much like 'Role Models') feels like another Apatow produced venture, but surprisingly has him absent again. Paul Rudd and Jason Segel are unsurprisingly funny and likable. The duo fire away a lot of random banter, and the script, while excessively light, is still witty. This is definitely an entertaining film that will have strong-word-of-mouth and garner many fans.

An enjoyable paint-by-numbers comedy that happens to feature an amazing Paul Rudd performance. Segal is great of course too. The supporting cast definitely isn't adding much to the funny, writers I'm looking at you, and great talent gets wasted. Liz Calloway, for example, who steals her scenes in Sarah Marshall, gets a throwaway role and Samberg is just the straight man (pun intended). But I have always been delighted by Rashida Jones, even though she's never brought much to the table.

Rudd carries the feature with his awkward charm - the actor is so clueless that is verges on unbearable, but on the whole Rudd turns him into a sweet and loveable dork. The film as a whole is funny, breezy, and entertaining. I liked that the female character (Jones) is given a little depth, but I didn't think the commentary on man-child syndrome was all that strong (Segel's character is funny but it's pretty unbelievable that he can succeed at anything).

Goddamned funny. Paul Rudd and Jason Segel work extremely well together and I was pleasently surprised by the ending. Jamie Pressly and Jon Favreau (love him!) were outstanding as the supporting couple. Rashida Jones was boring as sin, and I could never figure out why Rudd loved her so much. Besides her, the cast was brilliant.

A flawed but entertaining lighthearted comedy, only made interesting thanks to the interactions between Rudd and Segel. While sometimes coming across as a little forced, it generally remains down to earth with some good humour and a slightly surprising lack of low rent laughs. It's never going to be the kind of thing you'd watch again and again, due to the constraints of being a vehicle simply created for setting up previously thought up routines, but it's pretty effective at what it does.

I just never know what to say about these Apatow-universe comedies. They're fine, they're pleasant, they've got some laughs. Characters are believable and reasonably likable. None of the situations seem to too forced. But they're so... non-descript. It's really weird to imagine that this is someone's favorite movie (or even favorite comedy), but it probably is. It was a decent way to pass the time. Paul Rudd is very good at being awkward in a completely non-freakish way.

This is up there for me in terms of comedies. The thing that all comedy movies like this need to hit is chemistry. Rudd and Segel have it, they play really well off each other. The movie has some interesting sub plots and manages to develop other elements other than being just a comedy. Even if you don't find it overly funny, there is still a good movie here. Fortunately, It excels in all areas to me and in a genre that rarely hits to even be funny, I'd reccomend this to anyone.

OK, gutter humor is getting out of hand. How many times are we going to laugh at someone projectile vomiting on somebody else. It isn't just gutter, it's puerile, same as every time you say butt in a movie and all the kiddies laugh. I want more. And another thing, what would you do if a guy suddenly stuck his tongue down your throat? If you're a girl it's ok if you recoil, but if you're a guy, it would be insulting and rude to do so even if you're straight. But all was ok, my gag reflex ha

While the humor was not outrageous it was fairly consistent (though often crass) throughout this comedy. Rudd's performance didn't live up to my expectations but I hope he continues to get opportunities. On the other hand, Jason Segel's performance exceeded my expectations. Predictable but fun.

Bringing a boy-scout's level of sincerity2 fitting in as "just one of the guys", Rudd provides almost all the laughs (especially when delivering mangled accents) in this often contrived (starting early w/ a phone call put on speaker phone 4 no discernible reason other than 2 have someone say something inappropriate) comedy that uses shock humor far 2 often. Esp. heinous is Favreau's belligerent husband who's overwhelming boorishness might b funny if he ever behaved as anything other than a jerk.

Rudd and Segel make for a good comedy, but its almost too inoffensive and good spirited to have any real gut busters. Also too artificial, none of the characters have more depth than would be allowed in a 5 minute sketch and noone has real problems (e.g. every other character is impossibly wealthy or successful) for cringe-inducing sympathy.

"I Love You, Man" is a bromantic comedy that defines the genre. The term has quickly become cliché for this generation of comedies, but there's no better way to describe this film. It follows the same formula a romantic comedy would, but with Peter and Sydney rather than Peter and Zooey. The last half of the film, you expect Peter's credulous nature to catch up to him, adding tension to the 3rd act. On that note, Peter has to be the most awkward human being on film, yet you love him for it.

First KISS, now Rush. Paul Rudd's working his way through the classic rock catalog. This might end up being the most well-cast film I see all year, as every actor is perfect for their roles, and every supporting player is given a chance to shine (Lennon and Favreau are standouts). Like its protagonist, the movie can be a bit forced and awkward, but it's consistently funny and has a few wise ideas on communication and relationships. Segel steals the picture, giving a gem of a performance.

Formulaic but funny, thanks mainly to the excellent performances by Rudd and Segel, who strike a perfect mix and complement each other's comedic strong suit a la the original buddy movie, _The Odd Couple_. Full of the apparently requisite gross-out and sex jokes that the young, male target audience won't mind but may be a little much for their dates. Another solid entry in the booming "bromance" category.

In cinema, there is scarcely anything more miserable than a comedy that thinks it is funny, but doesn't try hard enough to be funny. This movie goes along its insufferable way, pretending to be the height of hilarity while offering up a roster of internally ugly characters put through the paces of a story that lacks sense, conflict, and consequence for their behavior.

It's pacing is off and it's often all over the place, with a forced and somewhat predictable plot yet still with a very charming spin. What makes it good is a superb supporting cast (with Segel delivering another great performance) and some really enjoyable humor and believable relationships. It's more throwaway than I'd liked, it's much more awkward at times than what I find funny but I enjoyed myself. Too predictable, but good for what it is. Also, Rush blew me away.

It's everything I hate about run of the mill romantic comedies only they tried to steer this towards guys. The characters are cliches and predictable. The good jokes are few and far between and most of those were in the trailer. The funniest person is the gay character and you almost wish the movie were about him instead. I can't give cliche romantic comedies a pass so I can't give this a pass. Also loses points for basically being an extended Apple commercial.

And so the Comedy of Slack era rambles on with the latest movie that borrows its thesis, tone and most of its cast from the Apatow laff factory. The film is overly familiar, visually flat and, truth be told, pretty funny. By now, Rudd and Segel are comfortable as can be with material like this, bringing confidence and out-of-left-field inspiration to their roles. The film is at its most interesting and original when it is slyly satirizing the often insipid foundation of modern male bonding.
