The rape sequence is a lot less sexually graphic, but the element of psychological terror is ramped up to an uncomfortable level in this remake. The revenge section is quite different from the original, the punishment she inflicts on each rapist is poetically appropriate and way gorier than anything Camille Keaton dished up. Visually kinda boring and really grimy looking, and there's plot holes you could drive a Mack truck through, but whatever.

A horror movie that completely disregards anything resembling a plot in favor of some more violence. Not a great movie, but it's easy to see why it has its fans.

If this is your kind of movie, well, you'll probably enjoy it. You need to be able to overlook the predictable plot, elaborate revenge schemes and implausibility in order to call this a good movie, and then you'll still have to overcome the fact that pretty much everything that happens once the second act rolls around is vile and repulsive. This wasn't for me, and I had absolutely no fun while watching I Spit on Your Grave.

Without having seen the original, I have to say, this is tough. The rape scene was too long and really hard to watch. After that you get a violent and graphic vendetta. I would say each one of those assholes got what they deserved but I won't watch this ever again.

A vendetta movie, well acted, nicely shot, and most of the guys meet with creative ends.

I caught this in passing on TV and wished I hadn't. It's not entertaining, it's an uncomfortable revenge bloodbath.

While this was better shot and acted that the original film it suffers from poor decisions from the writers/director. The fact that Jennifer makes a lot of poor decisions, like dropping the phone, going out in the middle of the night, not having protection, etc.. added to the lame revenge section really hurt this film. Having the sheriff be a villain really annoyed me, as did the fact that we never know how Jennifer escaped from the water and ...

better than the original, dropping part of the shock factor because of passage of time, yet still somewhat effective. plus butler is much hotter than keaton, but that doesn't negate the fact that the rape stuff takes up about half the movie, leaving too little time for the more satisfying revenge killing.

Brutal revenge flick that is extremely hard to watch. (I thought this was harder to sit through than Irreversible). The revenge is deserved but extremely cruel. The film successfully engaged my desire for vengeance and then satisfied that vengeance and then some. It was all competently done and some of the revenge was clever and was darkly funny.

An average film by it's own merits, nothing here surpasses the original. The promise it starts with fades away once the modern horror cliches start coming thick and fast.

Held on assuming some plot twist would explain all of the holes and general senselessness, I over-estimated them.

Higher production value, but similar setup to the retarded original. Standard rape revenge plot with no real original thinking except the torture sequences towards the end. Has a bit of gaul to shoot some POV shots through her eyes during the first half given the extreme male perspective on every other shot choice. ie - Part of the character development was spent watching the victim sunbathing, cleaning a wine stain in her underwear and slowly applying lipstick.

The second half of the movie is reduced to cliched, cartoon-ish, semi-interesting horror-flick impossibilities. But that's the second half. The FIRST half, is not about displaying the visual graphic-ness of a gang-rape, but so much more about the psychological torment of pre-rape torture. And it definitely pushes that envelope to a level I've never seen before. But I have to ask... what the fuck happened to the daughter? Is that a cliffhanger, or lazy writing? Can't bring myself to recommend it.

Need to see the OG as from what I've read and heard it's more inline with Bergman mixed with no budget horror of the early 80's late 70's. This was too sleek to really work at all.

Works as a rape-and-revenge movie but problem is that that’s ALL it is - could have used some kind of rehabilitation/training/planning instead of the girl just going straight from girl next door victim to in her very next appearance being an avenging angel of death making Saw traps. But it’s already too long so that might not work either. Still though it’s better shot and acted than the film it’s a remake of.

Gore, gore everywhere. It shows many non- subtle ways of torturing and isn't really interesting as nothing is actually explained. *SPOILERS* How did she survive? Where did she have all those things from? She was so weak mentally and now she's a super human both mentally and physically... A B- rated bondage and gore porn with hardly no plot. It is interesting, to some extend, to see all those innovative torturing techniques so points are given only for that.

A good remake as horror flicks go.

problably Jennifer had a part-time job in Jigsaw store.

Revenge movie about a girl who is brutally savaged by 5 men including the local cop. She narrowly survives and returns to get revenge. The problem with this movie is that so much of the story is untold. So instead of giving us a comprehensive story they concentrate on the the horrific scenes, and fail to show much of anything else. Some nice nudity but in a rape scene. Mostly just gory torture and mutilation. Poor direction and lousy story telling.

Okay Movie

The last in a tidal wave of remakes of classic scaries, this version of ISoYG is fashioned in accordance with the torture porn fad of the aughties, so the vengeance scenes are far more elaborate and crueler. While Meir Zarchi's was a B-movie made on a shoestring budget, the remake boasts expensive production and is more technically accomplished in every way. Genre fans should be entertained, but it lacks psychological subtlety present in the original, and doesn't add anything of substance.

Too much brutalitiy.

Does what it says on the tin. About an hour too long though.
