Weird but still good? Rom-com but iffy?

66 where "66" = in an overused genre & with big potential for the overdone this is not too bad. In Japan there's a unique sub genre of young lovers where one of the two has an incurable fatal disease and they have to deal with it. Here it's neatly done with the elephant in the room addressed at start & also unusual title satisfactorily addressed. The overmawkish is well avoided also with some snappy dialogue. Animation fluid & easy on the eyes. This was far better than anticipated. No nudity.

It's sweet without being saccharine, which is funny given what literally happens in the movie. As with anime (and my joke), it's a bit blunt sometimes on presenting its themes. But I like it all the same. The main characters are likeable and the growth they show in the movie feels natural. I keep thinking how nice this story would be if it was a short series, as I wanted to get to know the other characters more.
