About an hour too long, very predictable - the guy who goes out of his way to act suspicious turns out to be the baddie, the guy who is about to get married is immediately killed, that kind of thing - and sometimes gets bogged down in being a submarine training video instead of being a quality film. Technically impressive, but not much more.

a decent spy thriller that is a bit long winded, but fairly well penned and is full of action. if it were a bit more condensed, and had less of the submarine stuff it would have been better. it's a far cry from great, but it is definitely watchable.

Sporadically compelling. There is a fantastic 90-minute movie stuck inside this 148-minute movie. It is not a script that demands the runtime. The film clearly wants to be a big epic with an overture and intermission but its way of achieving that goal is to take a smaller, simple story and inject a bunch of air into it. There is some great dialogue and acting to be had, and a strong ending, but also far too much downtime with basically nothing happening other than killing time for long stretches

An adventure so boring and forgettable that the Russian guy turns out to be the mole.

If it's a metaphor for the tedious, technical, and pointless intrigues of the Cold War, it's a great success. If not, it's an incredibly boring, badly written, poorly acted, and hilariously designed failure of a film. The underwater ice and submarine special effects are the only things that hold up today. A slimmer, faster remake today would be interesting perhaps.

Ice Station Zebra has an interesting setup, but the execution is flawed. The movie is boring too often and over-long.

You get your money's worth with this one. All-star cast, sub movie, scenes in the arctic and a spy thriller! Loved the look, the soundtrack, the performances. This is an event!

There are some technical flaws in this (like the thrusters that make the satellite reverse) and a bit too much footage of the sub diving. However, this is a good story with escalating suspense and some surprising twists. The tough-guy leads are all fun to watch, particularly Patrick McGoohan and Jim Brown (who comparatively doesn't have much screen time despite the high billing). A solid film that doesn't feel like 149 minutes. Also, it made me very cold.

An overlong action film that didn't age well and is very predictable. Plus, Borgnine's attempt at a Russian accent was distracting.

I appreciate it technically and also the apparent realism about many technical aspects of the submarine, but I have to say that I didn't find anything more interesting about it. Quite boring and maybe a bit confussing about the several actions and interests.

There is a lot of this is predictable and sometimes the atmosphere of the situation nosedives into boredom but the talented cast and tight confines of the environment make Ice Station Zebra a worthy attempt at a cold-weather thriller.
