Iguana

hellman recasts a not-so-noble historical savage ("a creature whom it is religion to detest", melville puts it) as a slave who suffers, revolts, and builds a kingdom in the image of his oppressors, delivering brutal "justice" until his subjects either fight him to the death or embrace their own subjugation. it resembles a foundational myth of civilisation in its stark caveman savagery, and the closing image suggests the only escape from these cycles of suffering is annihilation.

Todos estamos prontos a nos tornarmos um Iguana vingativo do mundo, é muito fácil se apontar uma questão moral do alto de dos privilégios do bem estar, mas quando se é tratado como monstro/outsider por toda vida é difícil não construir um eu baseado em ressentimento e vingança. Quite rarely we have a film where I'm not just enjoying the tingles of audio-visual stimulation but sitting on the edge of my seat really wanting to know what happens next. Really interesting film.
