Breathless. Perhaps the best film of the 21st century so far. Neorealist for the billions living it today, prophecy for the rest of us. Mexico on the edge of a nervous breakdown. "Things fall apart."

A masterfully controlled but fluid narrative punctuated with tender, devastating, and hilarious moments. A perfect example of the greatness of Mexican cinema.

Thank you for showing me Cumbia rebajada. Ulises is a fantastic character and the scenes in Mexico are unforgettable even if the last quarter of the film is a bit of a slog.

A film about how music connects us to our past, carries us through the present, and promises our future. Of course I enjoyed this.

a lot of vignettes, not significantly more than the sum of its parts. the jumps in time and nonlinear narrative really doesn't do a lot for this movie. still, the coming-of-age stewing and lashing out is played well and relatively compelling
