Okay Movie

Was called The Wisdom of Crocodiles when I saw it in the cinema. A better title for sure.

Sadly a far cry from Paul Hoffman's book, which was a deftly tangled fable of economics, pornography and a vampire with kidney stones shaped by the emotional range of his victims.

The most charming vampire I had ever watched. I was quite addicted to Jude Law.

Creepy, haunting, and romantic this is a surprisingly good vampire film. One that is made even better by Jude Law's eerie and memorizing performance as a creature that is torn between blood lust and feelings of love stirring within. A rather underrated addition to a famous horror movie sub-genre that continues to be impressive despite the lame Twilight series efforts to the contrary.

So it's Trouble Every Day/Sombre meets Vampire's Kiss (without the humor), complete with Serious Themes laughably yet somewhat endearingly overstated and an excellent cast left struggling to make it through the "artfully" (ie tastefully) shot and lit pretentiousness of what is essentially a pulply thriller/(barely) horror film/love story. Still, that you said, you get to see Elina Löwensohn in a corny amber-lit softcore sex scene and Jude Law pass kidney stones so it can't be all bad right?
