In Secret

Olsen is great in this movie, and Felton takes on (just a slightly) different role then we are used to. But besides that In Secret doesn't shine in any way at all and only because of Olsen I rank it 41/100.

This is... odd, I guess? I can't call it BAD by any means. But cousins getting married, obscenely-overbearing matriarchs, and overt, sometimes-weirdly-placed sexuality kinda pulls this thing all over the place. Though it DOES set up a very good atmosphere, and the sexual tension in the early movie is also quite well-done. The under-the-table oral scene was a welcomed moment of comedy. It's melodramatic but that's what you're committing to. The second half really picks up. It's worth a good look.

My rating is influenced by the fact that I saw this at the Princes of Wales during TIFF. Amazing experience. As for the movie itself, it's quite well shot and acted, especially by Olsen, and features a lot of darkly comic moments. It also gets points for taking the romance in an interesting but realistic direction. Still, it's hard to ignore the rather obvious Shakespearean influence, and I definitely wouldn't bother watching it again. Kind of rote, despite the above.
