It's a chore to sit through due to the unbelievably bloated, relentlessly expository and above all endless monologues, stilted acting, boring cinematography and almost total absence of a plot or dynamics. To add insult to injury, somewhere between the nonsense introduction and the incessant and artificial pseudo-philosophical ramblings that are disguised as dialogues, it tries hard to appear as an intellectual musing on life but comes off as self-indulgent, smart-ass and unbearably dull instead.

A Fassbinder wrecking ball. At awe with how uncomfortable and grim certain moments may feel. It's very eccentric look at humanity holds weight on the integrity of eternal issues. The narrative, although dispiriting and taxing, rewards a glimpse of hope through it's inevitable fate of character.

Em honra de Volker Spengler (1939 - 2020). Feito em resposta ao suicídio de um dos amantes de Fassbinder, Armin Meier, que se suicidou no apartamento de Fassbinder depois de não ter sido convidado para o seu aniversário em 1978, é um filme peculiar, pois ao mesmo tempo que tecnicamente é uma obra-prima, ele deixa um mal estar intolerável - falo isso especificamente falando da cena do matadouro, aquilo me assombrará para todo sempre.
