Basterds has some truly jaw dropping, laugh out loud and cringe worthy moments that you won't soon forget. Over time this will become a classic that will made example of for the right reasons. Christoph Waltz particularly shines in one of the most awe inspiring casts who together produce some of the best lines you will hear in film. Fluently blends genres to create the ultimate extravaganza.

Tarantino's best script since 'Pulp Fiction', 'Inglourious Basterds' is an audacious film filled with hilarious moments and fantastic performances. Waltz steals the show, playing the sly and clever detective to utter perfection. The rest of the cast is just as great. And talk about suspense, the first scene or that scene in the bar make we want to revisit this film over and over. Thank you Tarantino, for reflecting your love of cinema through this amazing film.

What a great movie. I'm blown away. The script is excellent, the acting is incredible (especially Aldo and the Jew Hunter), and the whole thing is just enjoyable. The scene where Aldo is speaking EYEtalian is so so great. Wouldn't have minded more Basterd backstory though. Overall, one of the best of 2009 and of this century.

Inglourious Basterds is assuredly and irrefutably the best film you are going to get from 2009. It accentuates all of QT's trademark ascertainments, and the editing is enduringly primary Tarantino. The script is the best I've ever heard in a while, with enough sapient dialogue that could fatigue and prostrate even the most prudent of films. The cast is excellent, with Brad Pitt giving a exotic and chimerical yet good performance. But Christoph Waltz kills in this one as a indomitable detective.

Tarantino continues to pump out incredibly entertaining cinema. The writing was top notch (as expected), utilization of a great soundtrack, memorable characters, great story, surprising performance from Christoph Waltz, and killin' Natzis. This movie's got it all. Best of '09.

First film I've had a PSI of 100 where I actually rated it 100. Well done, Criticker. I absolutely adored this film. I expected to dislike it as I haven't been on board with Tarantino's films since the 90s. From the first, gripping scene I was transfixed. His best film by far, forget Pulp Fiction, forget Reservoir Dogs, this is somehow his most mature, accomplished, relevant work, his best revenge story and so much more than that. Loved it.

Tarantino's best film since Pulp Fiction, Inglourious Basterds is a relentless, and at times disgusting film with some snappy dialogue, and some incredibly hilarious moments. Brad Pitt and the Basterds are easily the funniest part of the movie, but one unforgettable thing about this film is the performance by Christoph Waltz. With Inglourious Basterds, Tarantino crosses the line, but he does it in a way where you are not questioning why, but simply accepting.

"Jewish revenge porn?" I can't see anybody finding titillation in the events depicted. No, this is just a work so blisteringly amoral, so averse to drawing a moral line or creating a single irreproachable character, that it, in the vein of A Clockwork Orange, is genuinely upsetting. Less a revenge flick than one questioning the concept's very validity, it shows differentiating between travesties committed in the name of intolerance, nationality, vengeance, opportunism is akin to splitting hairs.

If there was an Oscar for dumbest facial expression, Brad Pitt would win it for sure, but he's just hilarious with his Tennessee accent. For me as a German it was interesting to watch what Tarantino got from all the German and Austrian actors who are mostly considered the best you can get. In general, great screenplay, great cinematography, great acting (Waltz is brillant) and witty dialogues. 25/08/09

A cleverly and ambitiously written World War II film. The majority of the cast acted superbly and the plot was great yet obviously extremely unrealistic. The characters were engrossing, the tension scenes were unbearable (in a good way) and the soundtrack was great. I do feel that the music did overpower some scenes though in terms of volume, especially when building tension, but that's just me nitpicking. But yeah, overall, a really good film that's definitely worth watching.

This may be the most important Holocaust film of this decade. Especially as a Jewish girl I should know that this category is so filled with fake pathos, that it's become too rare to find an innovative film in it. But I must say - this is NOT a film about the actual Holocaust. This is a film about Holocaust films, and the poorly made emotion-exploitation that Holocaust films became a synonym for. I salute Tarantino for putting this big illusion out of it's misery

This kick started an entire decade where Tarantino was the only American filmmaker who mattered. Along with his usual fun tropes (dialogue, violence, cinematic references, suspense), he added great historical insights. You can tell he desperately wants us to appreciate the resistance fighters history doesn't acknowledge. That lesson is still relevant, as too many hateful soldiers and citizens think they will just re-enter the world after society rejects their ideologies. A classic.

This is exactly what Tarantino is known for, it's not an action film. There are short, intense moments of action and raw violence but people seeking Rambo in WWII are going to be left disappointed. If you're expecting Tarantino's trademark pulpy dialog with odd but captivating characters from all over the moral spectrum this is a must see. I don't know if I'd go so far as to call it Tarantino's best but it's certainly up there.

Tarantino's best film. And while I've always been an apologist, this doesn't have to be defended. While other QT films were exercises in form or genre, this genuinely had a subtext: The ghost of a dead Jew breaks the fourth wall and kills off the Third Reich. With that and Eli Roth's pained expression throughout the film, allow that to sink in. Oh, and Waltz deserves some best acting awards for single-handedly carrying (and increasing) the tension and the film itself.

"That's a bingo!" Tarantino makes movies like no other director working (in the mainstream at least). The way in which he does away with exposition and weeds out typical causal links, in order to focus on the microscopic details is awesome. One 20-25 min. consistently well-written conversation follows the next, with an amazing sense of the cool and comic, ironic and iconic. Realism obviously goes out the window within seconds, but is instantly replaced with badassery from another planet.

Tarantino knocks my teeth out after feinting with Death Proof. One of the tensest movies I've sat through, and Waltz delivers a game-changing performance. Filled to the the brim with nods to various forms of cinema, this is a propaganda piece that points its finger squarely at us for enjoying watching other humans die. We are the Nazi audience cheering a swastika being carved. We are the guffawing Hitler.

Tarantino does history. Well, that's new. While chapters 1 and 3 give this movie some depth (at times almost disguising it as a "proper" WWII film), sections 2, 4 and 5 serve us the ultimate Tarantino experience. What's more to say to this Pulp Fiction of the '40s: Brad Pitt is great as a "Tennessee dead-butch" and casting Christoph Waltz = Bingo!

The perfect feast for hardcore Tarantino fans. This was a long wait especially after him saying that this could be the masterpiece of the decade. Excellent script and screenplay, all the actors did justice to their roles. Loved the first chapter, which was the perfect beginning for a crude, dark and witty tale. Two thumbs-up for Tarantino!

Tarantino retains his unmistakable style and trademark dialog, while crafting his most suspenseful and mature film yet. It's clear that he has become an even more adept filmmaker over the past few years (I was especially impressed by how good his cinematography was). Brad Pitt, who I feared would be cheesy, gives an enjoyable and fun performance, and Chrisoph Waltz is freaking awesome. After a summer of banal movies, this thing made me look forward to going to theatres again.

Tarantino's latest, his best effort since 'Jackie Brown', has loads of surprises, suspense, humor and offers some of QT's very best monologues to boot. The performances are topnotch as well. Laurent and Kruger are especially good runners up, but it's Waltz (who delivers an Oscar-nomination-ensuring tour-de-force) who's the main draw of the flick.

This is what you come to expect from Tarantino and he delivers! Great dialogue that exposes the talent within the actors that's built around an epic story which doesn't disappoint. This movie was entertaining from beginning to end. While everyone in the film was great, let me pay homage to Christoph Waltz. I literally got chills after chapter one. His performance was so perfect that he immediately joins the ranks of HAL and Nurse Ratchet. Never has a character made me feel so tense. Bravo!

Quintessentially Tarantino. A fine addition to his catalogue. Some especially memorable scenes with fantastic dialogue. The pacing between tension and humour is very effective. Such a great film. The tension throughout this film was really amazing. There were more than a few moments throughout this film where I was holding my breath waiting for the tension to break and the scene to literally snap into action. I was surprised that the title characters weren't the most interesting, that spot is left for Christopher Waltz's character. If you have no interest in this film I think you still should see it for his performance.

To make a war movie that is really a film about cinema seems a bit self-indulgent, and right at the end the references to other films threaten to swamp it completely. But I'm surprised (again) at how Tarantino can combine good, cheesy, pulpy fun with sincere emotion. I found it funny, involving, and even tense. I was utterly engrossed all the way through it.

Tarantino seems to have taken a vow with this movie to be unafraid of including numerous lengthy scenes of dialogue. The result contains occasional fine moments, but also sometimes feels rather too drawn out. Despite some audiences' apparent reactions to the film's violence, the overwhelming cartoonishness of the whole thing means the movie rarely rises above being a mildly diverting piece of (cross)generic entertainment. Some good performances.

Not merely a perfectly-scripted action thriller - effortlessly stringing together several amazing setpieces with dialogue that functions as characterization, exposition, and poetry all at once - but a complex and scathing critique of nationalist fervor and propaganda, and a love letter to the power of cinema to inspire and destroy. Not to mention its incredible performances (Waltz especially) and understated progressivism. This is the film Quentin Tarantino was absolutely born to make.

Tarantino is at the top of his game. Though all of his movies have contained numerous memorable scenes, none of them have attained the level of intensity of many in this movie. The opening scene, the bar scene, the strudel scene, the buildup to the (very satisfying) climax; they all make the pulse race and glue the eyes to the screen. Furthermore, the movie is hilariously irreverent, beautifully shot, and wonderfully acted (I hope Waltz gets an Oscar). This might be Tarantino's masterpiece.

A brilliant spaghetti western-style take on alternative history WWII. Tarantino's script is killer, providing great dialogue and action. His direction is also brilliant, keeping you captivated for twenty minutes of dialogue, the tension slowly rising, before it boils over into a blast of violence. Waltz and Pitt seem determined to steal each scene they're in, and fight each other for it by the end. A blast to watch.

Was not expecting to like this since I'm not a big QT fan, but this was great. Pitt was hilarious ("stiglits") and Waltz was a great villain. I never knew which way the story was going to go and it kept me guessing throughout. I felt the theater scene dragged a little, but other than that, did not mind the length. I was pretty much hooked from the opening scene.

With Inglorious Tarantino has simply created a magnificent piece of cinema. Despite lengthy periods of dialogue it is never less than completely engaging. The violence of the Basterds is sparcely shown but is vicious enough to leave a lasting impression. Brad Pitt is hilarious with his 'Tenessee Italian' an absolute highlight ! Perhaps Tartantino's most inspired move though is the casting of the realtively unknown Waltz who should be oscar nominated for his charming yet terrifying portrayal.

Stylistically, we've seen it all before, all Tarantino does is copy himself here. And this time, the brutal violence doesn't work in the context of the movie. The dialogue is really bad as well. Only thing it has going for it is the fairly intense opening scene, and Waltz's performance. A dumb and superficial movie.

Well-written and brutally funny just as you'd expect from Tarantino. Chapter's One and Two were absoutely amazing and Christopher Waltz steals the show as he re-invents the role of the villain. The use of music in this film is absolutely flawless as well. Tarantino's second best film to date.

It could only come from the mind of Tarantino. This is his imaginative, historical revision of how World War II came to its end. It's raucously entertaining, full of the highly charged dialogue we've all come to expect from Tarantino. Frequently in Tarantino films, there's a standout performance - Travolta in Pulp Fiction, Carradine in Kill Bill. Keep a close eye on Christoph Waltz's Oscar worthy performance as the psychologically frightening Hans Landa.

Entertaining but redundantly self-conscious trash - unsurprisingly, since Tarantino has not matured in 20 years of filmmaking. More specifically, Basterds asks the profound cine-philosophical question "how badass can I make my leads while keeping them the good guys" and triumphantly answers "let's make em Jews who kill Nazis". The film is embelished with a musical score plagiarizing Ennio Morricone, to remind the viewers of Tarantino's adoration for Sergio Leone, in case we have forgotten.

Undeniably Tarantino, a movie made by someone who loves movies. Every scene is insanely suspenseful and satisfying. The international cast is amazing, Christoph Waltz is incredible, and Eli Roth ain't too bad either. I hope this ushers in an era of alternate history cinema, there are so many places to go!

Tarantino's love letter to guy films like "The Dirty Dozen" and vigilante flicks is fantastic and his best since "Pulp Fiction". Hey - taking pleasure in torturing and killing is always sick and fucked up, even if your victims are Nazis. I felt no sympathy for any of the characters. I've always thought Tarantino could be a great director if he would just grow up - but it looks like he probably never will.

Maybe it was the subtitles, or the period-piece setting, but this was the least overtly "Tarrantino" film I've seen. This is a good thing. Sure, some of his subtle comic touches and snappy dialogue are present, but they never act as a crutch, or come off as hipster indulgences. Here, all of his tools are used to serve the story, and a compelling tale it is, full of revenge, betrayal and helacious violence. The opening scene at the dairy farm should stand alongside the best of Q's career.

It seemed to me that Tarantino was trying to be Tarantino as opposed to naturally being Tarantino. Chapter One was incredible, but it just got less and less entertaining from there on.

Somehow QT reigned in his ego enough2 cut down a story planned as a mini-series (as if Kill Bill's self-important bloat wasn't bad enough!) into an entertaining 2½ hours. Apparently he also realized that not every word from his head is genius, so dialogue here is witty/serves the scene instead of his pointlessly tangential hood-speak. His usual slow pace works well here, ratcheting up the tension in many life-or-death scenes where the outcomes (as in all great thrillers) are ALWAYS unpredictable

Quite possibly Tarantino's most accomplished film just in the overall grandness and fluidness of everything. It flows so well and doesn't ever seem to slow down even though it's a fairly long film. The entire first scene completely made the movie and set up the rest for me, the amount of tension built up is stunning and is close to cinema genius in my mind. Really an all around excellent film, silly, but fun as fuck.

Not a film about WWII, but a film about film. Quentin Tarantino has achieved something that transcends anything he has attempted before. A clever, ambitious, and very entertaining World War II epic. Three miscellaneous thoughts: 1. A significantly different film than what it was sold as. This is Tarantino's best script since Pulp Fiction, and his best work ever in the director's chair. I really admire the way he chose to tell this story, in a string of long, detailed, dialogue-driven scenes. That's exactly what you'd expect from the man, but it's not what you expect from a WW2 revenge story. The foreign cast shines, particularly Waltz, Laurent and Brühl. A darkly funny slice of revisionist escapism. It's tense.

This could have been the best of Tarantino's movies, but somehow there are just moments where you want the Bear Jew to jump into a scene and tell the characters to shut up. A creative re-telling of WW2 where not only does America help win the war, but a renegade band of brothers blows the crap out of Hitler and scalps dozens of Nazis. Drags on for a while because of all the dialogue, but still really great and enjoyable. Taratino is doing what he is good at: violence and caricatures. It's got swagger. I'll give you that. And for the most part it is hugely entertaining. But that is to be expected from a Tarantino film. On the downside, it comes dangerously close to being too exaggerated and cartoonish. But it is made with such inventiveness and energy that it is easy to turn a blind eye on all its flaws. Oh and kudos to Christoph Waltz for his impeccable performance as Colonel Landa. He is easily the best part of the film.

This is, in all fairness, one of Tarantinos best movies. Perhaps his most "straightforward" movie, with more effort devoted to developing a plot than crafting scenes. While it's nice to see Tarantino stretch in a different direction, I both expected and wished for more scenes of the Basterds raising hell. They're the wittiest parts of the film, and the most conducive to his style. Pitt takes on the role with an oddball glee. Incredubbly Dissappointing. Given QT's pedigree and the reception the film has received, I was expecting something on par with Pulp Fiction; instead I got something that doesn't even match the very average Death Proof. The characters, save for Waltz's Hans Landa, are terribly uninteresting. The story is wholly superficial and serves only as a vehicle for QT to unleash yet another battery of violent, stylish revenge sequences. The ordinarily witty and humorous dialogue falls flat as well. Bummer.

Just a really strong film with a lot going on, a lot of really memorable scenes, strong performances in multiple languages, great music, a landmark alt-history movie, just fantastic all around.

Tarantino needs a good editor to leave his films to when he is done shooting, and someone who can help him get off his over blown ego. This movie, despite a couple of well shot action scenes,it's unbearably pretentious with all this inner joke CRAP and oh so smart self awareness.Tarantino also needs to STOP making all the characters in his films(despite their backgrounds, age, professions ecc.) talk and act like the same person = his own coked-up alter ego.Tarantino needs to fucking shut up already.

I had issues after my first viewing, but these were resolved in subsequent viewings as I came to understand QT's intent. Since then, I've found it to be easily one of his best films, with a number of truly tense and classic scenes (farmhouse and tavern especially) with fantastic performances (Waltz the shining star) and a lot of humour to lighten the mood between the violence and tension. Definitely one of Quentin's best scripts, the two and a half hours just fly by. A classic.

Quentin Tarantino is one incredible filmmaker, but this is his masterpiece. The performance of Christoph Waltz as Landa is one of the best I have ever seen, and his introduction in the film is absolutely terrifying for all the right reasons. The writing is also impeccable, with Tarantino's dark humor being all over the dialogue. Everything about Inglourious Basterds is so perfect, from the hilarity to the over-the-top violence to the performances to the incredibly well-crafted finale.

Tarantino stuffs the film with plot and characters, the least effective of which revolves around the rough-hewn mercenaries of the title. Instead, everything that surrounds them is riveting, representing simultaneously some of the finest writing Tarantino has realized on film and arguably the strongest, shrewdest work he's ever done with actors. There's a messiness in place, too, and hints of self-indulgence, but it's all in service of wildly inventive ambition that's a thrill to watch.

Entertaining, commendable, if necessarily brutal filmmaking, featuring some of QT's finest dialogue-heavy scenes, hilarious dark humour and standout performances. Bloody but righteous, and burning with a furious vengeance, this is a frequently ugly film with a singular goal - to make its mark, and have that mark be indelible. Though a somewhat fragmentary caper flick, as treatise to the power of cinema, its beautiful conflagration ensures its truth will remain unquenched through decades to come.

Amazing! I enjoyed it very much (to my surprise, I have to admit, since the trailer seemed rather dull to me...). The play with the different languages was extremely funny, though I think one has to understand all the spoken languages (English, German, French and Italian) to get the most out of it - the subtitles can't carry all the subtleties. And did I mention the great acting (Waltz, obviously, but Pitt was hilarious too with his accents), cinematography and musical references?

This movie so good that I've given it my "unattainable" 100 (1/538). The German was flawless to my ear, and the script caught the cultural differences of the Germans, Nazis, French, Americans, & English. This movie captures the brutality within the human condition, with many of it's wrinkles. It's brilliant. _Everyone_ but Hitler and Goebbels are treated basically fairly as the humans they are. If QT keeps this up I might end up liking him.

Not once did I feel the need to look at my watch. That said, it's a long, long movie, with half-hour scenes that are 99% dialogue. Pitt does a fantastic job, though, and usually carries the scenes he's in. Tarantino knows exactly what he's doing, but if anyone else made this movie, it wouldn't get the reviews it's getting. That says a lot about the way modern criticism works.

Tarantino's latest is a heck of a for ride for his fans, probably his best work since 'Pulp Fiction.' The cast is universally excellent for the exception of the Eli Roth bits. Watch out for Christoph Waltz as the central villain--his menacing, slithering performance is guaranteed to get him an Oscar nomination, if not a win. As a whole, 'Basterds' is a bit hit-and-miss, but mostly an awesome, violent, bloody, hilarious, history-rewriting event of a movie that should not be missed.

Inglourious is a return to top from for Tarantino, providing a audacious blast through the centre of occupied France. Interestingly directed and with some great contrasts between the various characters, as well as a bold choice of direction, it provides a violently stylised and often surreal glimpse into the tensions and hatred surrounding those partly disillusioned from their own humanity. Waltz puts in the standout performance, essential in developing tension in the closest encounters.

Good. The 45 I give here are largely for Christoph Waltz's performance which can only be described as delicious. The greatest strength of this movie lies in its long, slow burn talk sequences which are all amazing. Other than that, th action sucks, Eli Roth sucks, Brad Pitt sucks in his most one dimentional role ever. And the theatre ending, I found it cheap, stupid, offensive and disrespectful to the victims and heroes of the Holocaust. Watch it for novelty's sake.

I thought the beginning of this movie was great. Waltz interrogation (and all the subtitles) was fun to watch, and his performance overall def puts him in the Oscar conversation. Pitt is great too with his lingo, and the scene where he meets Waltz at the movie premiere is one of my favorite parts of the movie. I just wish QT had spent a little less time at the theater scene, or just cut down on the length of the movie. I felt it lost steam about 2/3rds in, but still had a solid ending.

The plot: simple. The characters: shallow. The comedy was great but lacking. The action was okay but even more rare. The well written/acted dialogue was the best part, but not enough to redeem this film's shortcomings. QT merely copied himself here, but failed to realize any one aspect as well as he had. He didn't even do his famous long-single-take shot well. To top it off, the (sort of) badass Basterds were merely a sub-plot. I can't believe it's up for best picture. Not worth all the praise.

Quite entertaining for being a tarted-up exploitation film. It suffers a bit because the pattern of tension and release is predictable until the last chapter. Long, dumb, and violent. So in other words a Quentin Tarantino movie. Some of the Melanie Laurent parts aren't completely terrible i guess, but whatever slightly redeeming quality it earns is completely thrown out the window with that campy finale. With less narrative trickery than his earlier stuff, it's also has a weirdly plodding and monotonous structure. Basically, long overwritten dialogue scene followed by a shoot-out then repeat. And that self-congratulatory final line, ugh...

Vintage Tarantino: from signature trunk shots and witty monologues to the absurd moments, nothing is left but the audience to savor in cinematic gold. The beginning scenes are reminiscent of Pulp Fiction; the divided five chapters flow seamlessly throughout, and illustrate the power of a drop-dead hilarious climax done right. The entire cast strikes on all cylinders with perfection and goes down as smoothly as a glass of warm milk. However, the slow place degrades the overall impact.

I put this flick on a pedestal for 2009. Yes, it's Quentin jacking off from start to finish, but he put a decade into this, give him his tune on the ol' piss pipe. Only reason I knock this flick down is, it does drag in places for those who are anti-tons-of-dialogue/subtitles. There's enough action to keep the pace for my taste, though. Absolutely LOVED the Quentin-Aldo tangent with the "masterpieces". The film's opening is worth the ticket price without doubt; Waltz, meet my good friend Oscar.

A very fun and expectedly well written film, but by no means a masterpiece. It's a bit embarrassing that the majority of Tarantino's work feels like a rather obsessive homage to Sergio Leone. The whole femme fatale angle deserves a serious break as well. The opening scene of Basterds was a bit too reminiscent of elements found in western greats such as "G,B&U" and "Unforgiven" - e.g. the patriarch wielding the ax in the open field, followed by a tense sit down in the kitchen with the villain.

Over-long, too episodic, and slow. Landa is wonderful and there are some hilarious moments. I believe Landa said, 'e lui' and then 'e lei' to the last 'italian,' thus calling him a girl. I might be wrong and he was simply speaking formally. All in all I did not like this film. Everything is amoral and dead. The dialogue is unrealistic. The movie is just too far into death fantasy for me. Though I almost got an erection when the lady was strangled to death. I was glad to see the monster in Landa.

I'm not at all a Tarantino fan, but I really loved this. It has completely original and off-kilter pacing, just a very strange but great rhythm to it. I was surprised by how very tense it got, but also how very *funny* it was--I would almost describe it as a Stanley Kubrick B-movie--and that's not to say it's on the level of Kubrick, but rather reminiscent in some hard-to-explain way. Much of the movie is unapologetically, unsanctimoniously silly. Yet the revisions give you plenty to chew on. You need no extraordinary expertise to realize that Tarantino has played fast and loose with the facts of how and when the Third Reich fell, has indeed set sail into a parallel universe. The size of the falsification (a Big Lie about the foremost perpetrator of the Big Lie) is the difference between just another sneaky Hollywood falsification and a brazen joke on all such falsifications.

Ten years in the making, the screenplay shows off Tarantino's legendary ear for dialogue, and he does a fantastic job of building tension and atmosphere. Pacing is a bit of a problem, and those who are looking for non-stop action will be disappointed. The violence, when it does show up, is swift and graphic. All of Tarantino's strengths and weaknesses are on full display, giving plenty of ammo to both his admirers and detractors.

Tarantino has really grown into himself since he started writing Inglourious Basterds. Out of all of his movies this one seemed to have the most engaging dialogue with out his odd campy way of everyone sounding the same. I think he has finally hit his sweet spot with the dialogue. One ambiguous scene stands out in my mind that can be argued about by film nerds to the same extent as to what was in the briefcase in Pulp Fiction. All over a simple glass of milk. Amazing

Another solid outing for Tarantino, but it hardly reaches the heights of Pulp Fiction or Reservior Dogs. The dialogue is as snappy and fun as you come expect for Quentin, and it certainly has its moments. But for such a long film the characters seem shallow and slightly bland. Credit needs to go to Waltz (Hans Landa) and Laurent (Dreyfus) for their frankly brilliant performances, which drive the film. Indeed so much so the films best moments don't feature The Basterds! Still, its very good.

So, it's not just a movie about killin' nat-sees. It's a movie about movies. It revels in being a movie, 'cause Tarantino loves movies. He loves the trash and the pulp. And though I really like this approach and I think he makes fun movies, this is not "the best movie about movies ever," and it does not deserve so much praise. Tarantino brings some of his most stylistically and emotionally mature work to a sweeping war epic more concise and cohesive than Kill Bill and more grounded and deliberate than Django. He shows great talent as a revisionist, reimagining the war to fit his whims--violent, beautiful, populated by larger-than-life characters--but still bolstered by rich, sparkling dialogue and classically designed scenes of conversational tension. He puts the genre, film history, and violence under the microscope.

Tarantino tour de force. Every scene is worth watching on its own, directed and acted with can't-look-away tension. Always been a little uncomfortable with the brutality in his films, but his style is so superb I can always forgive it. A bit too fantastical/slapstick at the end for me, but it's a quibble. Plus he made me love a Bowie song I didn't give two shits about before, so thanks for that as well.

Loved this film and pretty much every performance in it. Pitt plods along admirably and Waltz is excellent. Really think Eli Roth should get a "Bear Jew" spin off.

Entertaining and occasionally horrifying, this is definitely one of Tarantino's best films. Deconstructs everything from movie violence to the use of language. And a WWII film that uses David Bowie's "Cat People"? That's just awesome.

Tarantino does an excellent job of modernizing WWII, and a great job with a cast of multiple nationalities spanning multiple scenes. He also excelled in the creation of very memorable characters.

Classic Tarantino over-the-top violence is what helps the surprisingly comical Inglorious Basterds succeed

There are parts in INGLOURIOUS BASTERDS that drag, and while Tarantino's dialogue is brilliant, I sometimes wish he would pick up the pace. But each extended set piece is like a chess game: he slowly moves the pieces into position, carefully and precisely. Then, with equal precision, he sets things into violent motion. The final cinema massacre, the culmination of all this set-up, is one of the greatest set pieces in cinema. Then I realize how vital these deliberate passages are. A masterpiece.

You should know this about Tarantino, it ain't an action movie, despite its appearances. Some of the most beautifully crafted dialogue Tarantino has ever done

The crazier basic idea, the better. I got the feeling that this is fundamental motto of Tarantino. This movie has no connection with reality, the screenplay has been unrealistic, but is not this the case with all his movies? Another great movie in his opus, another smile/think/question movie about human nature... And lot of Tarantino style action. Do not miss it!

the only flaw of this movie may be that it's just so unconventional in a way, that it's basically jerking you off and letting go, grabbing your dick again, than letting go again, and so on, for two hours, just to give you the most mindblowing orgasm ever, saying "i am the best fucking lay you ever had".
sometimes that sorta not-giving-you-what-you-want-deal can be kinda painful, but it's still the best sex you ever had. or at least among the top five.

Definitely Tarantino's best, incredibly tense, while at once funny, cathartic and a commentary on film and film violence. Great comedic performance by Pitt while Waltz provides both humor and terror. It's this fine balance that makes the film great - always keeping the audience on its toes and delivering an amazing climax.

With Inglourious Basterds, Tarantino has finally taken his trademark style that he's been developing for the past 15 or so years and putting it to a greater, more intelligent purpose in this excitingly subversive war fantasy. And with one of the greatest villains to grace cinema in, perhaps ever, we finally have a film from Tarantino in strong competition with his now legendary Pulp Fiction.

Where this film falls through in improper focus and pacing it makes it up in its atmosphere and concept. An alternate universe film in which a group of Nazi-killers pull off most cliche yet satisfying assassination of modern human history, backed by Brad "I'm Fucking Brad Pitt" Pitt and that German guy with the dance name who might be the perfect actor and all directed by Tarantino in his signature stylings? What is not to love?

When you watch this film you'll realize three things. #1 You want twice the amount of screen time that is given to the hilariously American(more specificially Appalachian) Lt. Aldo Raines. #2 You'll want half the amount of screen time for the vengeful Ms. Dreyfus and her one sided romance/stalker. #3 And you'll want ten times the amount of screen time for the cruel, intelligent, and brilliantly acted German Colonel Hans Landa. You'll find yourself loving and fearing him every scene he's in.

Tarantino took some big, bold leaps when he decided to rewrite history with this phenomenally entertaining story of jewish vengeance. It's so fantastically well written, creating long but suspenseful dialogues, blending his unique sense of humor with excessive violence accompanied by a characteristic soundtrack. But his biggest achievement is probably casting Waltz as Hans Landa, he's just a true revelation and together with Pitt's hilarious character you have yourself a classic.

another tarantino masterpiece - the whole goddamn package when it comes to films. that's to be expected though, since tarantino can do no wrong. this film will always have a special place in my heart, because outside of being a phenomenal specimen of art in it's own right, it was the first tarantino film i ever saw. this film introduced me to one of the world's greatest film directors and to the joy of filmmaking. i owe my career in film to this film and to quentin tarantino.

I can't think of another film that showcases brilliant performances just one scene after another. At points it feels more like a series of vignettes than a cohesive film. Love him or hate him though, two things are undeniable about Tarantino: the man can entertain with dialog and he brings out the best of an actor's talent. Both skills are front and center in this WWII farce that I found extremely entertaining.

It's hard for Christoph Waltz to not stand out in a movie nowadays. Now that the elephant in the room has been acknowledged, the rest of the cast did not a great job when held away from Waltz, while Tarantino does deserve a lot of credit for the beautifully intricate characters and the mature war-based adventure flick. A modern classic.

Some brilliantly written and executed scenes with great tension and comedy but the story never quite rises above its setpieces as a whole. It seems like Tarantino has all the talent to construct cinematic masterpieces but lacks the discipline and just seems interested in celebrating trash. Nothing wrong with that and it's hard to complain when this is a really entertaining and well made movie but his early work hinted at something more unique and substantial.

This is not peak Tarantino. It comes across to me as a caricature of American propaganda at parts, and a general disappointment. Even still, Tarantino at his worst is better than many others at their best. Still not quite as good as Pulp Fiction and Kill Bill.

Tarantino had to have had a brass pair to tackle a story set in WWII, but he does it extremely well. Christoph Waltz, particularly, has never been better than he was in Inglourious Basterds. He commanded to the screen and gave the audience anxiety in the way that he delivered his dialogue.

This is Tarantino at his best. The 1940's setting mixed with Tarantino's over the top style is a match made in heaven. But obviously what makes the film truly special is as always Tarantino's knack for writing dialogue.I mean especially the tavern scene is probably one of the best scenes in cinema history. The amount of suspense generated in that scene and the way it all goes down shows how much of a master Tarantino really is.
