Basterds has some truly jaw dropping, laugh out loud and cringe worthy moments that you won't soon forget. Over time this will become a classic that will made example of for the right reasons. Christoph Waltz particularly shines in one of the most awe inspiring casts who together produce some of the best lines you will hear in film. Fluently blends genres to create the ultimate extravaganza.

Tarantino's best script since 'Pulp Fiction', 'Inglourious Basterds' is an audacious film filled with hilarious moments and fantastic performances. Waltz steals the show, playing the sly and clever detective to utter perfection. The rest of the cast is just as great. And talk about suspense, the first scene or that scene in the bar make we want to revisit this film over and over. Thank you Tarantino, for reflecting your love of cinema through this amazing film.

What a great movie. I'm blown away. The script is excellent, the acting is incredible (especially Aldo and the Jew Hunter), and the whole thing is just enjoyable. The scene where Aldo is speaking EYEtalian is so so great. Wouldn't have minded more Basterd backstory though. Overall, one of the best of 2009 and of this century.

Inglourious Basterds is assuredly and irrefutably the best film you are going to get from 2009. It accentuates all of QT's trademark ascertainments, and the editing is enduringly primary Tarantino. The script is the best I've ever heard in a while, with enough sapient dialogue that could fatigue and prostrate even the most prudent of films. The cast is excellent, with Brad Pitt giving a exotic and chimerical yet good performance. But Christoph Waltz kills in this one as a indomitable detective.

Tarantino's best film since Pulp Fiction, Inglourious Basterds is a relentless, and at times disgusting film with some snappy dialogue, and some incredibly hilarious moments. Brad Pitt and the Basterds are easily the funniest part of the movie, but one unforgettable thing about this film is the performance by Christoph Waltz. With Inglourious Basterds, Tarantino crosses the line, but he does it in a way where you are not questioning why, but simply accepting.

If there was an Oscar for dumbest facial expression, Brad Pitt would win it for sure, but he's just hilarious with his Tennessee accent. For me as a German it was interesting to watch what Tarantino got from all the German and Austrian actors who are mostly considered the best you can get. In general, great screenplay, great cinematography, great acting (Waltz is brillant) and witty dialogues. 25/08/09

"Jewish revenge porn?" I can't see anybody finding titillation in the events depicted. No, this is just a work so blisteringly amoral, so averse to drawing a moral line or creating a single irreproachable character, that it, in the vein of A Clockwork Orange, is genuinely upsetting. Less a revenge flick than one questioning the concept's very validity, it shows differentiating between travesties committed in the name of intolerance, nationality, vengeance, opportunism is akin to splitting hairs.

First film I've had a PSI of 100 where I actually rated it 100. Well done, Criticker. I absolutely adored this film. I expected to dislike it as I haven't been on board with Tarantino's films since the 90s. From the first, gripping scene I was transfixed. His best film by far, forget Pulp Fiction, forget Reservoir Dogs, this is somehow his most mature, accomplished, relevant work, his best revenge story and so much more than that. Loved it.

A cleverly and ambitiously written World War II film. The majority of the cast acted superbly and the plot was great yet obviously extremely unrealistic. The characters were engrossing, the tension scenes were unbearable (in a good way) and the soundtrack was great. I do feel that the music did overpower some scenes though in terms of volume, especially when building tension, but that's just me nitpicking. But yeah, overall, a really good film that's definitely worth watching.

This may be the most important Holocaust film of this decade. Especially as a Jewish girl I should know that this category is so filled with fake pathos, that it's become too rare to find an innovative film in it. But I must say - this is NOT a film about the actual Holocaust. This is a film about Holocaust films, and the poorly made emotion-exploitation that Holocaust films became a synonym for. I salute Tarantino for putting this big illusion out of it's misery

This kick started an entire decade where Tarantino was the only American filmmaker who mattered. Along with his usual fun tropes (dialogue, violence, cinematic references, suspense), he added great historical insights. You can tell he desperately wants us to appreciate the resistance fighters history doesn't acknowledge. That lesson is still relevant, as too many hateful soldiers and citizens think they will just re-enter the world after society rejects their ideologies. A classic.

Tarantino knocks my teeth out after feinting with Death Proof. One of the tensest movies I've sat through, and Waltz delivers a game-changing performance. Filled to the the brim with nods to various forms of cinema, this is a propaganda piece that points its finger squarely at us for enjoying watching other humans die. We are the Nazi audience cheering a swastika being carved. We are the guffawing Hitler.

"That's a bingo!" Tarantino makes movies like no other director working (in the mainstream at least). The way in which he does away with exposition and weeds out typical causal links, in order to focus on the microscopic details is awesome. One 20-25 min. consistently well-written conversation follows the next, with an amazing sense of the cool and comic, ironic and iconic. Realism obviously goes out the window within seconds, but is instantly replaced with badassery from another planet.

This is exactly what Tarantino is known for, it's not an action film. There are short, intense moments of action and raw violence but people seeking Rambo in WWII are going to be left disappointed. If you're expecting Tarantino's trademark pulpy dialog with odd but captivating characters from all over the moral spectrum this is a must see. I don't know if I'd go so far as to call it Tarantino's best but it's certainly up there.

Tarantino's best film. And while I've always been an apologist, this doesn't have to be defended. While other QT films were exercises in form or genre, this genuinely had a subtext: The ghost of a dead Jew breaks the fourth wall and kills off the Third Reich. With that and Eli Roth's pained expression throughout the film, allow that to sink in. Oh, and Waltz deserves some best acting awards for single-handedly carrying (and increasing) the tension and the film itself.

Tarantino retains his unmistakable style and trademark dialog, while crafting his most suspenseful and mature film yet. It's clear that he has become an even more adept filmmaker over the past few years (I was especially impressed by how good his cinematography was). Brad Pitt, who I feared would be cheesy, gives an enjoyable and fun performance, and Chrisoph Waltz is freaking awesome. After a summer of banal movies, this thing made me look forward to going to theatres again.

Tarantino does history. Well, that's new. While chapters 1 and 3 give this movie some depth (at times almost disguising it as a "proper" WWII film), sections 2, 4 and 5 serve us the ultimate Tarantino experience. What's more to say to this Pulp Fiction of the '40s: Brad Pitt is great as a "Tennessee dead-butch" and casting Christoph Waltz = Bingo!

This movie was entertaining from beginning to end. While everyone in the film was great, let me pay homage to Christoph Waltz. I literally got chills after chapter one. Tarantino's latest, his best effort since 'Jackie Brown', has loads of surprises, suspense, humor and offers some of QT's very best monologues to boot. The performances are topnotch as well. Laurent and Kruger are especially good runners up, but it's Waltz (who delivers an Oscar-nomination-ensuring tour-de-force) who's the main draw of the flick.

To make a war movie that is really a film about cinema seems a bit self-indulgent, and right at the end the references to other films threaten to swamp it completely. Such a great film. The tension throughout this film was really amazing. There were more than a few moments throughout this film where I was holding my breath waiting for the tension to break and the scene to literally snap into action. I was surprised that the title characters weren't the most interesting, that spot is left for Christopher Waltz's character. If you have no interest in this film I think you still should see it for his performance.

A brilliant spaghetti western-style take on alternative history WWII. Tarantino's script is killer, providing great dialogue and action. His direction is also brilliant, keeping you captivated for twenty minutes of dialogue, the tension slowly rising, before it boils over into a blast of violence. Waltz and Pitt seem determined to steal each scene they're in, and fight each other for it by the end. A blast to watch.

Stylistically, we've seen it all before, all Tarantino does is copy himself here. And this time, the brutal violence doesn't work in the context of the movie. The dialogue is really bad as well. Not merely a perfectly-scripted action thriller - effortlessly stringing together several amazing setpieces with dialogue that functions as characterization, exposition, and poetry all at once - but a complex and scathing critique of nationalist fervor and propaganda, and a love letter to the power of cinema to inspire and destroy. Not to mention its incredible performances (Waltz especially) and understated progressivism. This is the film Quentin Tarantino was absolutely born to make.

With Inglorious Tarantino has simply created a magnificent piece of cinema. Despite lengthy periods of dialogue it is never less than completely engaging. The violence of the Basterds is sparcely shown but is vicious enough to leave a lasting impression. Brad Pitt is hilarious with his 'Tenessee Italian' an absolute highlight ! Perhaps Tartantino's most inspired move though is the casting of the realtively unknown Waltz who should be oscar nominated for his charming yet terrifying portrayal.

Tarantino is at the top of his game. Though all of his movies have contained numerous memorable scenes, none of them have attained the level of intensity of many in this movie. The opening scene, the bar scene, the strudel scene, the buildup to the (very satisfying) climax; they all make the pulse race and glue the eyes to the screen. Furthermore, the movie is hilariously irreverent, beautifully shot, and wonderfully acted (I hope Waltz gets an Oscar). This might be Tarantino's masterpiece.

Quite possibly Tarantino's most accomplished film just in the overall grandness and fluidness of everything. It flows so well and doesn't ever seem to slow down even though it's a fairly long film. The entire first scene completely made the movie and set up the rest for me, the amount of tension built up is stunning and is close to cinema genius in my mind. Somehow QT reigned in his ego enough2 cut down a story planned as a mini-series (as if Kill Bill's self-important bloat wasn't bad enough!) into an entertaining 2½ hours. Apparently he also realized that not every word from his head is genius, so dialogue here is witty/serves the scene instead of his pointlessly tangential hood-speak. His usual slow pace works well here, ratcheting up the tension in many life-or-death scenes where the outcomes (as in all great thrillers) are ALWAYS unpredictable

Tarantino seems to have taken a vow with this movie to be unafraid of including numerous lengthy scenes of dialogue. The result contains occasional fine moments, but also sometimes feels rather too drawn out. Despite some audiences' apparent reactions to the film's violence, the overwhelming cartoonishness of the whole thing means the movie rarely rises above being a mildly diverting piece of (cross)generic entertainment. Some good performances.

It could only come from the mind of Tarantino. This is his imaginative, historical revision of how World War II came to its end. Entertaining but redundantly self-conscious trash - unsurprisingly, since Tarantino has not matured in 20 years of filmmaking. More specifically, Basterds asks the profound cine-philosophical question "how badass can I make my leads while keeping them the good guys" and triumphantly answers "let's make em Jews who kill Nazis". The film is embelished with a musical score plagiarizing Ennio Morricone, to remind the viewers of Tarantino's adoration for Sergio Leone, in case we have forgotten.

Maybe it was the subtitles, or the period-piece setting, but this was the least overtly "Tarrantino" film I've seen. This is a good thing. Sure, some of his subtle comic touches and snappy dialogue are present, but they never act as a crutch, or come off as hipster indulgences. A significantly different film than what it was sold as. This is Tarantino's best script since Pulp Fiction, and his best work ever in the director's chair. I really admire the way he chose to tell this story, in a string of long, detailed, dialogue-driven scenes.

Tarantino's exercise in suspense is possibly one of his most satisfying films to date. I have a hard time believing anyone's typical anti-Tarantino argument that this is style over substance and cool for coolness' sake. Emotional tension is replete throughout and in fact carries the film, and the Oscar-worthy Christoph Waltz is mostly responsible.

Like all Tarantino films, this one was captivating, humorous, and excruciating throughout. A wonderful modern tribute to WWII and its heroes.

For a long time, Tarantino was untouchable. Sorry Quentin, this was crap.

When you think about it, the Basterds were completely unnecessary to the outcome of the story. Still fun though.

Not Tarantino's best, but still a damn fine movie. It's full of long discussions, all of them enjoyable and at times, more intense than most action sequences. A nice balance of an interesting story, funny moments and some gruesome bits. It's a Tarantino-movie, after all.

Incredubbly Dissappointing. Given QT's pedigree and the reception the film has received, I was expecting something on par with Pulp Fiction; instead I got something that doesn't even match the very average Death Proof. The characters, save for Waltz's Hans Landa, are terribly uninteresting. The story is wholly superficial and serves only as a vehicle for QT to unleash yet another battery of violent, stylish revenge sequences. The ordinarily witty and humorous dialogue falls flat as well. Bummer.

Masterpiece. Impossible to find the right words to describe how great it is. Hilarious, excellent writing, long and great dialogues, superb acting (Christoph Waltz !). Everthing in this movie is great. From the brilliant opening scene introducing Kol Hans Landa, to the mexican standoff in the bar, to the gruesome actions of the Bastards, and to all the other magnificent and exciting scene's. Bradd Pitt's knowledge of the Italian is epic. Tarantino did it again ! His best one since Pulp Fiction.

Tarantino's self-styled spaghetti western set during WWII is a near masterpiece (close enough to give Pitt's character the benefit of the doubt for calling it one), and second only to "Pulp Fiction". As brutal as it is, there are several very funny segments and the action is very intense and explosive--literally and figuratively. Christoph Waltz, deserved the best actor award at Cannes for his smoothly menacing SS colonel, and Pitt is the perfect Tennessee cowboy out for blood.

It's typical Tarantino, in a good way instead of a bad way like in Death Proof. Some great dialogue, some bad-ass scenes, some humour, even some social commentary in exaggerated awesomeness that is this movie. It's just everything you want from a Tarantino flick, and is my fave of his besides Kill Bill.

finally a ww2 movie with a happy ending. Lt. Aldo Raine's character suits the movie perfectly! and a big BINGO for Christoph Waltz.

At this stage in his career Tarantino seems to be a prisoner to his tics and affectations. There's still talent on show, but the movie is bloated, overly mannered and frequently dull, particularly the pointless subplot involving the Basterds.

A fun loving movie that substitutes historical accuracy for a fine historical fiction. I have no complaints about the players, and at times Tarantino's direction and script produce some simply hilarious moments that prove to punctuate the drama/action in just the right ways.

Christoph Waltz was the unexpected show-stealer. Brad Pitt was over-the-top, but Christoph was incredible: devious, scary, charming, comical all at once. Best laugh out loud moments in a war movie since Kelly's Heroes.
