Spike Lee's style really doesn't work all that well for a heist movie. Too much is given away too quickly, removing tension from the film because you already have a good idea of what happens before the movie comes even close to finishing. You're pummeled with race relations, rather than a crime thriller. It's still alright though.

(after repeated viewing) The middle part is freakishly boring, the rest is quite entertaining and pleasing. Spike Lee can't stand racism and is proud of his black ass. Shiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiit....

A rather intelligent script but a very questionable directorial work by Spike Lee. Some very obvious bad choices of story telling and camera work, not to mention the irritating use of the dolly technique. The really good part is in the sub-text which touches on the delicate matter of prejudice and power-hierarchy. Not up par with the 25th Hour but watchable on a regular evening which is exactly what I did :)

The plot of this movie was one of the best I've ever heard of. Everything was thought out perfectly, and the plan was genius. Although the movie was very serious, there were some funny parts to lighten the mood. For example, during an intense scene, an older white man's phone goes off playing "Gold Digger" (a popular rap song) as his ringtone. The idea of the antagonist hiding out behind a wall and escaping later was brilliant. This movie was very enjoyable!

Watched this film at the insistence of my "date" who then proceeded to pass out on the couch from a copious amount of weed. Never been a huge fan of Spike Lee. I liked what he has to say, in general, but do not feel that he always puts his point across in the best way possible (save for Do The Right Thing). However, I found this to be a generally engaging film. Clive Owens did a fine job and kept my interest throughout.

Entertaining, I guess, but the plot holes and lack of story just make this a drag. Let's also put race issues in a heist film!! Way to go, Spike, fight the man!

There's a saying in Turkish (I've been told) that goes: "I'm pissing on your face and you fool you think it's raining". That's exactly the sort of impression I was left with at the end of this flick. Utter baloney. Empty, none of it works. As far as I'm concerned, Spike Lee was taking the piss - and I for one didn't think it was raining. Bad bad bad.

A lot of fun and about as mainstream as Spike Lee will probably ever get. A heist thriller with some rough edges and rougher subplots but for the most part the pacing is good, the performances are excellent and a lot of the underlying themes - racial tension, post-9/11 paranoia, greed, moral shades of grey - work well without interfering with the highly entertaining bank job. It isn't trying to be a big 'message movie' but instead succeeds as a suspenseful crime thriller with interesting subtext

Gerald Butler shaves his beard and becomes Clive Owen in Jodie Foster's Panic Inside Man on Fire Room, starring (sadly) the more-talk-less-fight Denzel Washington instead of the less-talk-more-fight Denzel. I'm pretty sure I had this idea before Spike Lee, but in my version, everyone was wearing Guy Fawkes masks and talking alliteratively. Successively reminded me that the PSP was shit, even when it was new...and that was only 10 years ago.

Fun heist/negotiator flick. I just wish they explained how Clive Owen knew about what he was stealing. Also, there was no need to bring the race card into the movie, it was extremely out of place. Spike Lee needs to stop being so angry.

This film is not as clever as it would like you to believe. Clive Owen's plan was pretty obvious to me after about 20 minutes, it was just a matter of why. The "why" is a big letdown, and the initial momentum of the good setup really peters out to nothing in the painful and totally unneccessary last 20 minutes. The overall tone is way too light and breezy to have real tension, and the film has exactly zero likeable characters.

Entertaining & fun thriller that has a lot of style & some good performances married with a solid script. There are some plot holes here & it's a tad too predictable, but the story is just strong & fun enough to pull through. However if there was ever a Spike film that didn't require Spike's usual fascination with race issues, this is it. It certainly does not spoil this movie, but so often it seems as if Spike desperate to fight the good fight and force it into his films in a clumsy fashion!

The worst movie ever made. The previews made it look like an action thriller, but there was very little action. The plot was very boring, the characters were terrible, and there were vomit-endusing attempts at comic relief. The ending is an insult to the thriller genre. There was also loud jazz music that played during some important dialogue for no reason. There is nothing to like about this poor excuse for a movie. Stay FAR away.

I've seen this flick more than once, but cannot remember have I ever seen it from the start. Acting is okay, directing is okay, the script is right. But still something vital is missing: it's not thrilling. It's too clean. And predictable. In the end you do not bother who's on who's side, because the last half an hour does not offer anything surprising.

Spike Lee's energetic and clever bank-heist thriller touches on questions of race and class without taking away from the tension and fun of the cat-and-mouse games between a hostage negotiator (Denzel Washington), a bank robber (Clive Owen), and a high-powered fixer (Jodie Foster). Inside Man [...] is a smart genre film that is not only rewarding on its own terms, but manages to subvert its pulpy trappings with wit and skill.

Quite a well-thought-out bank robbery. It's interesting how the movie doesn't really make you pick a side. You kind of want the bank robbers to succeed, just for the sake of seeing it pulled off, but at the same time you're not totally against the police, because they're mostly ordinary guys just trying to do their jobs. Well-made, and entertaining from start to finish.

The acting was good, the premise was great, but there was no CLOSURE. The ending just leaves you sitting there going "Annnndd....?" Inside Man is a crackling entertainment flavored with some political relevance. Lee certainly isn't going to refrain from commentary on race in America, but he successfully makes it an element rather than a preoccupation. That sort of thing is usually outside of his skill set. As a detective with something to prove, Denzel Washington gives one of those easy-going performances that is as much about star power as acting chops, yet still manages to be pretty great.

It's pretty good. There were some seemingly forced "let's deal with race" moments, but they weren't as overt as I was expecting. The movie is interesting and well-acted. It's not really suspsenseful because a lot is revealed, but the way they pull off the robbery is cool. Recommended to pretty much everyone, especially aspiring criminals.

Great. When the Clive Owen character says he has designed "the perfect bank robbery," he isn't lying. It's genius. With three awesome central performances (Washington, Foster, and especially Owen), and terrific, stylish directing by Spike Lee, this is an unusually good heist movie.

Despite Spike Lee's efforts to turn this movie into some kind of political statement about the white man keeping the black man down, this movie still finds it's way. Jodie Foster is completely miscast as a high powered mercenary businesswoman. Yes, the acting is stellar, and I like Lee's visual style, but this adds nothing new to the thriller genre, the middle part of the movie drags on, and most of the film didn't make any sense, but maybe I missed some things. For instance, why and what was the point of the cops contacting Owen's character via telephone to meet his demands? But I always rewatch movies I don't understand, so a 2nd viewing for this is definitely in order.

Not sure what Foster is doing here (I know, I know, one more layer to the corruptibility of the elite), but the central storyline of cop and robber is lively and earnest. Special kudos to Clive Owen for playing a role that requires him to be in a mask nearly the entire time. Lee emphasizes the brokenness of social value and authority systems, even as he honors the work of individuals such as Det. Frazier.
