A troubled young man (John Savage) finds his place with the various misfits at Max's Bar, but when the basketball-fanatic bartender (David Morse) gets a chance to achieve his athletic dreams, he seems all too ready to put his past behind him. Winning little comedy-drama, with excellent performances from Savage, Morse (a damned impressive debut), and Diana Scarwid as Savage's vivacious girlfriend. The script balances the potentially unwieldy narrative extremely well, and is warmly funny to boot.

What a wonderful collection of beautiful little moments. The story is heartfelt, but it is the small moments of grief, friendship, self-loathing, and dreams that really make Inside Moves shine. Everything is small but Max's is that other bar where everyone knows your name.
