Instinct

Tries to be super intelligent, and Hopkins uses all his 'Lecter' character strengths, but the film only reaches some of its goals.

Just a boy version of Gorillas in the Mist.

Rather forgettable mess of a film which doesn't seem to decide what kind of movie it wants to be, and once again the useless Gooding drags it down.

The central relationship here quickly loses its initial psychological suspense but eventually morphs (through the growing pains of cliches) into a pleasant unlikely friendship spurred on through story sharing and spiked with a sentimental side-plot stemming from its prison setting. Most of its emotional peaks don't feel deserved (Theo's tears in particular) and some are downright cheesy (standing in the rain with my arms out!) but at least the film manages to get going after a shaky start.

Hopkins is ok with some silly source material. Gooding is lost.

There is few nice scenes and one great one in the middle, other than that the movie isn't interesting and loaded with cliches. As always Anthony Hopkins shows very good acting skills.

Not a very good film at all, especially considering that it has Anthony Hopkins, and he's always worth watching. The idea of the film was interesting, but it fell far short of it's mark, and i dont think it was the miscasting of Gooding Jr., thought that didnt help.

I don't remember this movie all too well, which can't be a good sign for it.

Much of this film was pretty idiotic. Actually the whole thing was pretty fucking idiotic. Too bad too, had potential.

Can you follow? Gorilla man, with infinite knowledgde, how I would envy a life like that.

Talking heads & vistas fill the screen in this unbelievable & slow almost silly movie. All the same the message is swell & the gorilla parts were real good.

Poorly executed primitivist/anti-civilizationist blather. Primitivism is such a reprehensible philosophy that I trash this on principle.

Sean Conn is dependable, but kind of miscast. "Show Me The Money" is completely miscast. The daughter kind of fits. And the script is acceptable. That's about all I can say, if you want a good flick for playing in the background while you're looking at pages like this one, here you go.

Anthony Hopkins performs, and I felt for his character, but the film itself was really quite boring.

Not the worst thing I've ever seen.

An okey-dokey movie that's pretty predictable. If they'd gone the route of delving into a few of the inmates' stories and looked at them as a group, this would've been a lot better - but Hopkins' character was pretty open and shut, and we've seen it before.

It's an alright movie and Hopkins is quite good, as is Cuba Gooding Jr. But the movie feels quite a bit far fetched for the realistic portrayal that they were going for. It's alright though.
