Paramount's first all-talking picture, Interference was dismally directed by Roy Pomeroy, whose lofty status as the studio's "technical wizard" did not necessarily qualify him to be a director. Evelyn Brent heads the cast as scheming Deborah Kane, who sets out to blackmail Faith Marley (Doris Kenyon), the above-reproach wife of Sir John Marlay. (allrovi.com)

Early talkies are nearly always a bit awkward as they never seem to quite know how to include the dialogue into the story while at the same time keeping things interesting. William Powell is great and completely outshines all the other actors. His performances have a kind of timeless quality to them that makes him even more unique. The ending was a bit unexpected.

Not bad considering it's Paramount's first talkie. Sure, it's not a perfect movie and there are some awkwardness about it, but the quality of actors made sure it was a very solid first attempt. Mostly because of the two male leads in the dignified Clive Brook and especially William Powell as the fatally ill returning "dead" husband of Brook's wife. The third player making it interesting was Evelyn Brent. The story is slow moving, but it's detailed enough to work and the end result is satisfying.
