Internal Affairs is a biting, occasionally savage, piece of work. Gere's magnetic as Peck, writer Henry Bean's composition is absorbing, save for the comparatively lockstep finale, and director Mike Figgis, a maker of moody, frequently experimental dramas and thrillers known for his psychological investigation of characters, knows how to turn on a restrained, genuine sensual intensity.

just as I was wondering if gere's subtle greatness here prevented garcia to mimic the explosiveness of early pacino and be incredibly annoying, he started shitting all over again. despite him and the stupid ending, the film has wonderful pacing and mood though.

Not a great movie, but this is one of Richard Gere's finest performances.

Cops scenes good. Scenes with women, bad. Something about killing the patriarchy within and LAPD is corrupt. Could be a lot better.

Reasonably gripping thriller with solid performances, especially Gere in what may be a career-best; he should play evil more often - and Metcalf. The tropes of the period do date it (the music and slow-mo especially), but it's a cut above most of its kind.

Meh. Killed some time. Gere was actually pretty menacing, too.

Just never caught my interest. The whole way through the film. It's like an animated wall paper. It's there but does nothing for me.

Good thriller which takes some darker and sleazier paths. It also contains one of Gere's best roles and Garcia in a fine form. It's sort of a pity that director Mike Figgis didn't continue making these kinds of Hollywood films since he was able to add something extra to the mix.

Gere's sleaze versus Garcia's completely over-the-top temper. Its entertaining enough.
