The first Dr. James Kildare movie and they pick handsome Joel McCrea in the lead. But in a way McCrea is only the secondary person in this story which is really another strong melodramatic role for poor Barbara Stanwyck searching for her child being her usual melancholy self. In trying to help people, and especially Stanwyck, our dear doctor gets involved with gangsters in a mess of a situation. Not good for a intern. The movie floats along alright, with a touchy teary moment to send us home.

The very first Dr. Kildare movie, with Joel McCrea as Kildare, before it was recast with Lew Ayres for the rest of series. But with Barbara Stanwyck around, it's naturally her show--she's a poor working girl trying to track down her baby that was snatched from her by her now-dead outlaw husband. It's all rather sweet really, with Kildare saving the day, with the help of Lloyd Nolan, a good-at-heart gangster.
