Really enjoyed this one, and I found it stands up well to repeat viewings. Pitt's moping might grate after a fashion, and I'm not convinced that Cruise was the best choice, but they both do well enough, and the rest of the cast is pretty decent. The film looks great, and the use of special effects is imaginative and quite subtle at points. I liked the story and the ideas it brought up. A worthy, and non-standard, entry in the vampire film canon. Pity the sequel was a pile of arse.

I didn't expect much, but found myself glued to every scene. Excellent writing & good performances. Brad Pitt & Tom Cruise were outstanding. Kirsten Dunst as a teeny vampire was awesome & memorable. An epic story with unpredictable twists & turns and lots of story depth. Nice to see Thandie Newton. Even Antonio Banderas was good. Exceptional writing & good production quality, SFX & CGI. Funny & shocking. Surprisingly entertaining from start to finish.

Started the "vampires are sexy and kinda gay" trend that ultimately led to Twilight, but taken on its own it's a serviceable horror-drama that looks fantastic. Odd final scene, though.

Here's the thing about this movie: I've seen it four or five times, which should leave me more than qualified to review it. Except every time I go back to watch it again it's because I can no longer remember a damn thing about it, other than that it has a lot of famous people in it and I seem to remember it being decently good. But how good could it possibly be if I never remember? It's...pretty okay. Kinda gay. Not that there's anything wrong with that.

I admit to liking this movie. I futher admit that, despite my reservations, Tom Cruise plays Lestat to the hilt. I do not think this is half the movie it should have been though, and that's the problem with most adaptations. This is the only good adaptation of a Rice novel.

Despite being very homo-erotic, this film is very engrossing. The all-star cast falls a bit short of expectations, with many seeming to just go through the motions of there rolls, but the story tells itself in spite of that. The deviations from the novel are few and far between, but with Rice's involvement with the screenplay it's hard to even call them deviations.

One of the better vampire films of our time. I think I'm glad that this came out before there was this huge push to make an entire series of books into movies. This is great standalone, and the other Rice adaptations have more or less fallen flat.

The movie that made me interested in the vampire mythos. Unfortunately the bar has been set unrealistically high because of it, treating vampires as characters or people has never since seemed to occur to the makers of movies. If Stan Lee had written the tag line for this film it would have been: "With great power, comes great blood lust. And likely your humanity."

Nothing pushes Neil Jordan's adaptation toward anything, but the look, atmosphere, costumes, score and mood keep us drawn in. Tom Cruise actually sells his character, Pitt looks right but stumbles in some dialogue, Dunst soars - and everything onscreen is beautiful to look at, it's just too bad there's not a steady strand of events making this a sensation. It's an adequate piece of gothic filmmaking, and much richer than most vampire films, but not exciting.

Especially sonata played by Lestat.['Claudia, you've been a very, very naughty little girl';)] It's not only a horror, but also some kind of drama which certainly is a huge advantage. A worthy adaptation of the Anne Rice novel by the same name, and while some casting choices made little sense (Banderas as Armand -- a character who was 16 at the time he was made a vampire, not pushing forty), most of the others absolutely do and are worth the watch. Tom Cruise has never played so perfect a role as the Vampire Lestat and captures his brattish qualities perfectly, but the performance to watch above all others is that of a tiny Kirsten Dunst as Claudia.

Interview with the Vampire is a good movie, but fails to be great because it attempts to include elements that have little connection to the plot, and end up being more of a distraction than an improvement. It has good actors and a great atmosphere, both of which allow us to experience the sorrows that come with being transformed into a vampire. Romanticized? Maybe. But it's still transfixing for the majority of its runtime.

The story lacks focus, with some weird dialogues laden with faux drama revolving around nihilism, and characters with love and hate relationships and identity issues. Frankly, the whole deal between Pitt and Cruise seems to be a thinly disguised coming out of the closet story. The redeeming quality, however, is Dunst, who puts on a surprisingly good performance, which coincides with her intriguing and touching storyline.

With its gothic atmosphere and dark imagery, 'Interview with the Vampire' explores the melancholic side of a vampire's eternal youth and unquenchable blood-lust through unmistakable homoerotic and other not-so-subtle subtexts. However, the cast is hit-or-miss, and the film doesn't explore its themes to the extent that it could have, making it an odd combination of repetitive, restrained, and forthright.

Still, there's nothing really wrong with it; it's in fact quite good on occasion. Except for tis one flaw which i won't talk about cause it's a spoiler, this film is way better than an Ann Rice novel adaptation has any right to be. Smart, sad, violent, and relevant to the themes that make Vampires so appealing to the imagination-- having to kill to live, facing what it would be like to live without a time limit, the selfish nature of love attachments, etc. And the use of color is really masterful.

Though short in stature, Cruise proves credibly long in the tooth as battered but immortal Lestat in Rice's deft adaptation of her own bloodsucking best-seller. Pitt is equally strong as the tale's main character and existential center. It's Pitt who poses the pic's primary query: Is it "evil" to take others' lives if their sacrifice is essential to your own survival? Terrific set pieces abound in Jordan's screen translation.

It's strange how novel a more serious-minded vampire movie feels today, even one as campy as this. The movie's fundamental flaw is that it entrusts a young Brad Pitt as the narrator; he reads the dialogue like a high school student performing Shakespeare. There is an interesting take on immortality and morality, and the distinctive costuming and makeup is frequently awe-inspiring, but the violent tonal shifts (the wacky sound effects in particular) are jarring in a way they shouldn't be.
