Had a cosy feel between the sisters, but whoever made this had very little understanding of survival.

I think it's a fine apocalyptic movie that doesn't do anything abnormal for the genre. The regular tropes apply, the same tragedies that generally occur show up here, and it's not boring. What puts this a little above average is the strong performances and chemistry between the two sisters, played by Wood and Page. Let's just be honest here: seeing Page tits after all this time is nice too.

Strong performances from the 2 leads, and some fine cinematography. But it's an ultimately bland post-Apocalypse that goes through the motions that so many movies have done before. However my other half loved it and she's not a fan of the genre like me, so maybe there's something here that appeals to the female psyche that my dumb male brain can't connect with.

I hate this apocalypse movies that tell you nothing about how it happened. Then just end the movie without a real ending.

What Into the Forest has steadily in its favor are two fiercely-committed performances from Wood and Page, who also produced. Their sisterhood, with all its centered devotion and frayed emotions, feels genuine.

This movie get's bonus points since I like this style of movie. I like both actresses and enjoyed the area it was shot in. However I did feel rather unsatisfied with it. I don't know how but I feel like it could have been really good.

Those poignant, impactful messages about the sanctity of life, however, are delivered in a story that rarely glances away from images of sexual intimacy and raw violence when they intermittently occur. (pluggedin.com)

Not sure what to really make of this movie, but I was given a lot of info from one who read the book that filled in a lot of missing blanks from the film. I found this to be rather grueling to watch, held my attention well, but ultimately unsatisfying on the whole. Still, I'll say it's worth a watch, but I'll forget this film in a short while.

the performances and some nice cinematography made it bearable, although a lot of it was pretty far fetched. the way rennie was handled was absurd, bordering on hilarious, especially for such an impactful plot element. from the first few minutes i hoped this would go down the path of social criticism, how tech-reliant we have become, but that aspect remained frustratingly underused in light of the "futuristic" setup. the summary is flat out wrong.

The characters were likeable, but they were morons who made one stupid decision after another in order to advance the plot. If the writer has to rely on bad, unrelatable decisions in order to advance the plot, then the writing is just bad.

A refreshingly grounded post-civilization scenario, involving neither an outbreak of subhumans or raider gangs. But with plenty of slow motion, sweeping cello, and strained performances, Into the Forest takes great labor to make rather middlebrow points about feminism and millennial consumerism, wherein the girly pro-life housemother and tomboy pro-choice scholar pay a steep price for the most precious commodity: each other. Blegh.

Nothing inherently wrong with a well acted and nicely shot low key apocalyptic film, it's just a little on the slow side. Some of the motivations from characters seem out of place, both pointing to a weak script. Still, you could do a lot worse.

The movie started out good, it was suspenseful and thrilling. And then they started making one stupid decision after another, until I just stopped caring about whether they lived or died. And it dragged a lot, making this one and a half hour movie feel like it was three hours long. The ridiculous non-ending ending was just the final straw.
