Spanish director Juan Carlos Fresnadillo's latest film transcends the confines of the horror genre through an emotional engagement with childhood fears, human frailty and the threat of the unknown. Clive Owen stars as John Farrow, a father who cannot protect his young daughter from faceless intruders, in this intense psychological drama. (tiff.net)

In many ways, the director of this film is just like me--he's an omnivorous bipedal mammal descended from primates, he downs a can of spam every morning while listening to Spandau Ballet, and he likes to see Carice van Houten naked (okay, not sure about that 2nd one). There is much about this movie (dialed-in performances, repetitive script, lack of tension, repetitive script) that leaves you with the feeling it was made solely so the director could see van Houten's houters. Which I can respect.

Despite crappy CGI I liked the premise and majority of the film. Director grew nicely old mystic style horror film. All the leads did sold acts, but the story crumbled soon after the half way into the dust. The truth of the story was lame and everything you've seen likewise lost their goodness. Shame. I wanted so much to like this movie.

An ok movie if you call it a thriller, a terrible one if you call it a horror film. I had to double check that this movie wasn't set on Spanish when it started. The whole first segment of the movie is subtitled. When Clive Owen starts to speak in English I was relieved just because I hadn't set my mind in motion for a Foreign film. Ella Purnell was about the most interesting person in this otherwise the storytelling was pretty slow. Hollowface was a pretty cool bad guy, very creepy in fact.

A really interesting story that maybe could have been done better and quicker.

Started of decent, but the ending ruined it.

I suspect it'd creep-out pre-teens but it's ruined by big-budget bloat (cgi, aerial and crane shots galore) and a self-destructive literalism. Shame because there's a nice little Leland-Palmer-esque psych-horror somewhere in it.

a decent thriller; there's a nice twist towards the end, but the end could be better written

Top badass moment? Seeing Spain’s tourist industry trashed; it never seems to stop raining there. Unlike everyone else I quite enjoyed this film, even though I didn’t really know what was going on most of the time, like life. (Point of the building site incident?) To sum up - a chap with a basketball for a head and wearing a pack-a-mac, goes around stealing kids’ faces. I wonder how many pints down the pub it took to come up with that idea? 3 (all cute) cats, no chainsaws or decapitations.

Some striking visual that are let down by the fact that this movie doesn't make any fucking sense.

What is going on with Carice? She puts it in her contract that she has to do a nude scene in every film she makes? I don't mind looking at her titties, but it's getting a bit obvious. This nude scene is totally out of place. Anyway, back to this film. It's another dump from Clive Owen. What's going on with his career, I had such high regards for him

Surely this film must be the beginning of Clive Owen's downfall! Not that he has had an amazing career but to say yes to this movie ?? Come on!! What was he thinking? One of the worst movies I have ever seen and I would have ranked it lower but to be fair, I turned it off after 40 minutes. Just couldn't take it anymore.

promising psychological thriller that started out great with its thrilling premise. unfortunately, as the movie progress, the story became rather confusing and irritating. switching between story back-and-forth that eventually made this horror movie rather monotonous. although there are several creepy moment that help raise the scare factor. yet, it is not enough to keep both the story and its horror. it felt pointless rather than scary.
