I appreciate the effort put into this, and there is some good dancing and pretty pictures, but I am not the audience for it. Miming is just a huge turn off, it's a form of communication I find actively aggravating and this is nowhere near interesting enough to make up for that.

Gene Kelly's passion project features three stories told entirely through dance: a circus clown pines for a ballerina; a ring is passed through several sets of lovers before returning whence it came; a sailor finds himself transported into an animated Arabian night. The first segment is decent and the last segment is colorful, but it's the middle segment that really elevates the whole, boasting the best music, the most interesting dancing, and the most compelling storytelling.

I never thought I could be so very happy to see a clown die. It's not entirely clear to me who the intended audience for this movie is: "Clown" and "Sinbad the Sailor" seem clearly intended for children, yet "Ring Around the Rosy"--the most successful sequence, to my mind--is quite adult in content. That sequence also has the great Tamara Toumanova... it's worth sitting through almost anything to watch her dance.
