Is the Man Who Is Tall Happy?

Hand drawn animation by the interviewer Director Michel Gondry that accompany a series of interviews with Noam Chomsky. Chomsky stuff if very heady and the animation is very hand drawn. This documentary-movie is not for everyone, most would find it boring or dislike the animation. Valid points, but I found that together they somehow works and would like to watch it again to understand the heady stuff better.

Surprisingly pleasant documentary where Gondry's endearing nature and Chomsky's dry placidity combine to make a really charming little film. Probably a lot better if you don't have a lot of expectations.

Chomsky definitely has presence, and Gondry's animation style was charming. An interesting, odd little curio, but worth seeing.

While Chomsky is fascinating, the lack of focus made this feel like it didn't pack the punch that it could have. The animation also did not really add anything. My overall thought was simply that while some of the information and ideas were interesting, there was no added benefit of presenting them in this format.

Noam Chomsky is so eloquent in going through his points I could listen to him for hours. Too bad the film has no structure to speak of and Michael Gondry is desperate to get himself heard without really having anything to say.

Chomsky is great, but Gondry is insufferable and talentless.

Tirando a insegurança narcísica do Gondry que não deveria constar nesse filme porque o que queremos ver mesmo é o Chomsky falando indefinidamente para todo o sempre, é um bom filme que deveria se repetir mais vezes para mostrar a grandiosidade de Chomsky - o maior intelectual vivo (sorry, Godard). Loved the animation. Chomsky is always fascinating to listen to. Could do without Gondry's insecurities about his own intelligence though.

I have my issues with Chomsky (i'm pretty solidly Team Zizek), and Gondry's typical overtly quirky hand-drawn animation doesn't really help to illustrate anything he's talking about, plus he asks Chomsky some pretty dumb questions ("Eels?") but it's still better and more engaging than something like Waking Life.
